Black Jack Tacos Free at Taco Bell

Taco Bell is giving away free Black Jack tacos to celebrate the World Series and Halloween.

Taco Bell will give each customer a free Black Jack taco between 6 p.m. and midnight on Oct. 31 to celebrate game three of the World Series and Halloween.

The Black Jack taco is a black-shelled taco with Pepper Jack sauce.

World Series Food Wager: Cheesecake vs. Cheesesteak?

There is more to New York City and Philadelphia than cheesecake and cheesesteaks, but don't tell that to the U.S. Senate.

The most powerful elected representatives from both New York and Pennsylvania have made a polite World Series food wager on the eve of the baseball match-up. If the Phillies win, Sens. Arlen Specter and Bob Casey will get New York cheesecake. If the Yankees win, Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kristen Gillibrand get Philly cheesesteaks.

What cliché and unoriginal choices, especially since both those old standbys can be found in the food court of any American mall. They don't accurately reflect the soul of either city. What two foods best sum up these two complex metropolises?

A base has been stolen: Free tacos for everyone!

free tacos for america screen grab
Living in Philadelphia, it is impossible to avoid the fact that the World Series is currently going on (and continuing to go painfully on, due to inclement weather in Philly last night). While my city continues to fret and suffer, waiting with bated breath for the second half of game five, the rest of the country can relax a little and enjoy a free Taco Bell Crunchy Seasoned Beef Taco today between the hours of 2 pm and 6 pm.

We have Tampa Bay Ray Jason Bartlett to thank for the free taco. Bartlett, a Ray shortstop, stole second base in the bottom of the fifth inning of game one.

Philadelphia and Tampa leaders place their bets

If you follow baseball, you may have heard that the World Series starts tonight. If you live in Philadelphia (as I do) or Tampa Bay, it is probably all you're hearing. As is tradition, the political figures from those cities have placed their food bets. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has promised to pony up Philadelphia cheesesteaks, Tastykakes, Philly soft pretzels and Mac and Cheese from Delilah's Southern Café (Oprah's favorite). If the Rays win. In return, the mayors from St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Tampa, FL have offered a Florida Beach Picnic that will include coconut shrimp, stone crab claws and Cuban sandwiches.

Not to be outdone, the governors of Pennsylvania and Florida have also gotten in on the action, betting similar packages of sweet and savory treats. May the best team, city and state win!

Steal a base, steal a taco

According to the official website of Major League Baseball and Taco Bell, between the hours of 2 and 5 pm today (October 30th), Taco Bell will be giving away free Crunchy Seasoned Beef Tacos. This is part of their Steal a Base, Steal a Taco promotion in which they promised to give away one free taco per customer to everyone who came into the store if there was a base stolen in the World Series. Well, a base was stolen and so they are giving away tacos. Tacos that cost less than a dollar to buy. Oh well, Americans, we love our free stuff.

Tip of the Day

While rice is an easy-to-prepare grain, removing its residue from pots and pans is no small feat. With these tips, it's a breeze.
