A Handmade Honey Pot

A cute honey pot
A couple of weeks ago, I found myself deeply exasperated by my honey storage situation. I typically buy my honey from these folks at Reading Terminal Market, and just store it in the jar it came in. The problem is that over time, the jar's threads get sticky with honey, making it a monumental struggle to get the lid off and on each time I want a spoonful for tea or a dab for toast.

The other night I plum fed up with the honey jar (and that's saying a lot, as I LOVE jars). I pointed my browser at Etsy and searched for honey pots (feeling very much like Winnie the Pooh). I found a number of fun, quirky and lovely options, settling on the pot you see above (the red nob spoke to me). It was made by a potter named Barbara Dunshee who's based in Seattle. She has a number of other whimsical honey pots, sugar bowls and serving pieces, if you're in the market for such things.

The honey pot arrived yesterday and it's absolutely fantastic. It holds about eight ounces of honey and makes adding a few drops to my tea a simple proposition.

How do you store your honey?

Adorable Disney appliances

It looks like the Slate missed out in their toaster test by excluding specialty and novelty toasters, but if "cute" had been one of their categories, these Disney toasters by VillaWare would have won hands down. Not only is there a Cinderella toaster, which prints a heart on one side of toast and a glass slipper on the other, but there are Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse toasters, too. Perhaps the most interesting toaster is one that will really appeal to children while annoying the heck out of parents: the Mickey Mornin' Toaster. It prints the unforgettable image of Mickey Mouse on the toast and it plays the Mickey Mouse Club March when the toast pops up. This toaster would make a great gift - that way you get to see it in action without having to live with it!
