Super Bowl Week: Ask.com's most popular game day foods

In the last few days, we've talked about chicken wings and chili, queso and pizzas. However, our food choices have mostly been directed by our own personal likes and dislikes. Over at Ask.com, they've taken a more scientific approach towards Super Bowl food, tallying their search results in order to create a list of the Ten Most Popular Super Bowl Snacks. According to their study, here are most popular foods.
  1. Chili
  2. Pizza
  3. Meatballs
  4. Salsa
  5. Ribs
  6. Spinach dip
  7. Wings
  8. Guacamole
  9. Quesadillas
  10. Artichoke dip
Of these foods, what are you planning on serving at your Super Bowl party? (Personally, I'll take any excuse to eat guacamole, which is why I picked Slashfood Flickr pool member You Can Count on Me's picture of it to illustrate this post).

Wings Across America, Cookbook of the Day

Yesterday we did dips during the cookbook of the day, but we all know that dips aren't much good without something that needs dipping. Chips, crackers and crudite are all good options, but when it comes to sports, hot wings should be a game day staple. Wings Across America: 150 Outrageously Delicious Chicken-Wing Recipes: 150 Outrageously Delicious Chicken Wings Recipes is a cookbook that serves up more than enough recipes for chicken wings to get you through this season and next.

The wing recipes in the book go much farther than you might expect them to in terms of flavor, with recipes from not only all over the country, but from around the world as well. You'll find the classic Buffalo hot wings, as well as Cajun-style wings, and heat levels that range from mild to fiery hot. The better-traveled wings use a combinations of spices and sauces from the Caribbean, Italy and Mexico, with some Asian flavors thrown in for good measure. There are plenty of dips and butters that go perfectly with the wings, as well as a variety of wing-complementing side dishes and salads. Many of which, like the Yummy Beer Battered Onion Rings, are deep fried.

And just in case the massive number of wing recipes still can't tempt you to get into the kitchen and make your own batch, the book includes a section on "wing joints," so you'll be able to track some already made ones down.

Budweiser to launch barbecue sauces

Budweiser will release a line of barbecue, grilling and wing sauces this summer, according to its parent company Anheuser-Busch, Inc. The sauces will include small amounts of Budweiser, but not enough to qualify as an alcoholic beverage ("Someone's been chugging the wing sauce again..."), according to a St. Louis Business Journal article. The sauces, distributed by Vita Foods Products, should be on shelves in grocery stores by July 4.

A gallon of milk in 41 seconds (and some wings, too)

Those of you with an interest in competitive eating (you know who you are) might already know of Joey Chestnut's recent record-setting win at this year's Wing Bowl in Philadelphia. I think I might be getting a bit desensitized to the figures that accompany these sorts of competitions, however. Chestnut took down 173 wings in 30 minutes and I'm not trying to downplay that. What truly amazes me, though, is the footage of Chestnut taking down a gallon of milk (looks to be whole milk) in 41 seconds. I'd long thought that to be a physical impossibility. I believe this was some sort of qualifying measure for the Wing Bowl, but I'm not positive on that detail. The Philadelphia Inquirer has more on the entire gristly event.
