Tasmanian Living Writers Week

The Tasmanian Living Writers Week is running over the 11th to the 20th August. The organisers have organised, as the do, several statewide food and wine events to accompany the bookfest.

There are the usual literary lunches and dinners there is a session called Words Food and Wine where Tasmanian wine writers and local winemakers will speak about making words 'delicious on the page'. The writers are Mark Smith, Graeme Phillips and Tony Walker, while the local winemakers include Delamere's Richard Richardson. Venues include Barringwood Park vineyard, Ghost Rock vineyard and Launceston's Stillwater restaurant.

Young Wine Writer Award

The Circle of Wine Writers - of which I am a member -  has released details of the Young Wine Writer Award 2006 in conjunction with Websters International Publishers.

The winner receives £1000 in prize money and a 4-day, expenses-paid trip to the wine regions of Australia, with opportunities to meet the growers and taste plenty of wine too I guess.

The competition is open to anyone under the age of 31 by the end of 2006. Applicants should not have had a wine book published nor be an established wine columnist.
They are looking for wine-writing potential, more than extensive knowledge or experience. You will also get the chance to write articles about the trip for the Wine Australia website
