Woman fired for giving "Timbit" to toddler

The woman, an employee of a Tim Hortons coffee and donut chain in Toronto, gave a fussy toddler the tiny, 16-cent donut (called a "Timbit") to eat, and was promptly fired by her overzealous manager.

The woman said she would have paid for the donut, but the store was busy and she had to work.

As soon as Tim Hortons' corporate offices heard of the firing, they quickly issued a statement that the firing was a mistake (it was implied that the woman was re-hired).

Seriously, though: who would want to go back and work for that maniac? Whatever happened to the customer coming first?

Hopefully, the woman will be able to get away from the boss with the anger management issues, and get a better job. Like at the local IHOP.

Toddler served booze at Applebee's

MargaritaThere's an "America's Favorite Neighbor" joke in here somewhere but I can't think of one at the moment.

A 2 year-old was accidentally served a margarita in his drink instead of the apple juice his mother ordered. The kid kept pushing the drink away after taking a sip and his mom didn't understand why. She opened the sippy cup and found the alcohol. She wasn't going to make a fuss, but later at home the child got sick and vomited. The chain says the incident was an isolated mistake. The child is fine now.

The reason this happened? Not only was the apple juice and the Triple sec/tequila mixture kept on the same shelf, they were kept in identical plastic bottles. Yikes.

Tea to go, good stuff for the summer

Lipton drink mixers for the busy body on the go have recently expanded to iced tea, and not a moment too soon. With the heat of summer breathing down our necks, those of us who are short on time and containers will truly appreciate these small packets of pre-measured iced tea mix. The simplicity of opening the non caloric mix and dumping it into 16 ounce bottle of water is so simple that even my toddler could mix himself a cool one for some thirst quenching tea. The flavors range form the traditional to a variety of green tea mixtures. These are ideal to keep in your glove compartment, diaper bag or office drawer to help give  any plain bottle of water a little zip.

Omega-3 added to new yogurt

Stonyfield Farms is looking to make yogurt even healthier. In Canada, their Organic YoBaby Plus Fruit & Cereal Yogurt, made for infants and toddlers, is now fortified with MEG-3 brand omega-3, giving it the same heart-healthy fatty acids that are found in foods like fish. Omega-3 is also found in breast milk in the same concentration that Stonyfield is using in its yogurt; it was likely the inspiration for the idea to add MEG-3 to the product in the first place, as soft yogurts are considered to be a good "transition" to solid foods.

Yogurt isn't the only food to recently gain the benefits of omega-3s. Some research is being done with pork and omega-3s. The question is whether the infusion of the fatty acid into other foods will be able to reproduce all the health benefits of the naturally occurring acids in fish.

Tip of the Day

Have you ever stashed a Coke in the freezer, hoping to chill it quickly, then forgotten all about it, only to have it explode all over your frozen peas?
