TLC Launching "Best Food Ever" Series

Photo: TLC

If you had to pick, could you really narrow down what's the best food ever? So many choices, so little time. But TLC's going to give it a go, starting May 3 with a six-part, one-hour series entitled "Best Food Ever." Unlike the Food Networks' recent series "Best Thing I Ever Ate," which has their TV celebrities riffing on one item in a broad category, TLC's take focuses on a specific niche, counts down a list of 10 and showcases the behind-the-scenes ingredients of each dish.

'Ultimate Cake Off' - What Part of That Is Cake?

Beth Ayala with the Green team. Photo: TLC

We know it's beside the point. We know we shouldn't care. But we can't help it: When the contestants on Ultimate Cake Off saw through layer after layer of sheet cake, carving those gigantic confections into castles or grand pianos or dirigibles or whatever they're trying to replicate, we cry a little inside.

Name that utensil quiz

Think you're pretty handy around the kitchen? Having nothing better to do on a Friday afternoon? Break up the monotony of the work day by checking out the Name That Utensil Quiz at the TLC website. There are photos of common and not-so-common implements to identify, along with a couple of questions about their uses. Your answers on the 11 questions will get you a rating from Tournant to Executive Chef so you can see how you fit into the kitchen. Take care to read all the questions carefully, though - while some are easy, others are a bit on the tricky side.

I'll admit that my score was 10/11. Take the quiz here and leave your score in the comments, below!

Honey, We're Killing the Kids!, new series to air on TLC

Tonight TLC will begin airing a new series entitled, Honey, We're Killing the Kids!. The show will focus on 13 families from across the nation who's children's eating habits have become seriously unhealthy. A constant intake consisting of over sized portions of sugary, fat laden, low fiber foods has left these children inactive and at high risks for diabetes and heart disease.

Dr. Lisa Hark, who hosts the series, focuses on the cause of this epidemic in our country. She helps educate the families about how to make healthier food and activity choices that will benefit their lives for the longterm. She also uses a computer imaging program that takes a current picture of their child and fast forwards it into young adulthood to give the parents a frightening look at how obesity will shape their children.
