Slashfood's Candy Creations - October 24th

We really like candy here, whether it is a sugary caramel or a decadent box of chocolates, and there is nothing like Halloween to get into the candy spirit. After all, the entire purpose of the holiday is to eat candy! To get into the swing of things before the holiday hit, we decided to host our own day of Candy Creations on Tuesday, October 24th. We'll talk about some of our favorite candies, homemade and store-bought, and offer up some tips on where to find the best candies and what to give out for Halloween. We have lots of treats to give out, but you'll have to be patient!

If you want to join us in our celebration of candy, write a post about your favorite candy, candy recipe or use for candies (sundae toppings, deep fried candy bars, etc) and post about it between now and the 24th. Send us a link to your post and we'll do include it in our roundup that day.

Time for a little Spring Cleaning - Slashfood theme day March 30

pantry spring cleaning

It's been a while since we've had a theme day here at Slashfood, so we're back this week with a whole day, Thursday March 30, dedicated to...Spring Cleaning.

No, we don't expect to start opening up our windows and sweeping out all that winter dust. We're cleaning out our pantries. You know you what we're talking about. You have unmarked cans lurking in the back of your pantry (is that Spam?). Dried pasta that you bought last summer. A whole vacuum-sealed container of navy beans that were supposed to be a soup...

Slashfood will be finishing off that last can of tuna from the six pack we picked up at Costco, but we'd like to see what you can make to clean out your pantry and make space for the fresh new ingredients for Spring. Just post your stories and let us know about it on Thursday.

Alphabet Soup, and We're Eating "D" - Slashfood Theme Day is Jan 18

alphabet soup - the letter DDarling, do you dare drizzle Danish Blue on your Dover sole or dunk your doughnuts in dark chocolate?

We hope you do, daaaah-ling, because next Wednesday, January 18th, Slashfood is eating the letter D! That's right, Slashfood's next theme day isn't a dish; it's not an ingredient; it's the fourth letter of the English alphabet - D.

Don't ask us how we came up with the idea. We were all a little hungover from the last Spirited Cooking theme day, and coming out of a deep Holiday food coma when we all decided that "D" was absolutely brilliant. Yes, brilliant.

So, dust off your Webster's, turn to page 471, and start looking for something to make that starts with "D." Throughout this week, we'll have some suggestions and ideas to bring out your inner-Scrabble-champion. I couldn't think of a single vegetable except daikon.

On Wednesday, we'll give you a place to post a link to your lovely creations, and who knows? We might even have prizes!
