English Pudding Fest

Blackberry TrifleFollowing my food porn picture for the St. George's Day English Pudding blog event, I thought I would have a look at some of the other entries via Technorati. All I can say is wow. I'm English but some of the puddings I have never come across before. Others offer some inventive takes on more recognisable puddings. There are loads of links to explore but five I looked at randomly are -

Eating Leeds came up with a Cumbrian Rum Nicky which not only sounds interesting but appears to be very easy to make.

Cookbook 411 has a superb picture to accompany a Gingerbread and Butter Pudding.

Drool Britannia over at Hungry in Hogtown with a Sticky Toffee Pudding Ice cream

There is Bakewell Tart over at English Patis which just happens to be one of my favourite puddings; I have a thing for almonds!

Sweet Pleasure goes for a Tipsy Cake combining various trifle recipes to make a lovely looking dessert.

My entry incidentally was also a trifle, pictured.

St. Georges Day Blog Event

Did you know that England has a national saint? We probably planted a flag and nicked him from someone else but what the heck, good ol' St George. Sadly, unlike the Scots and the Welsh, the English tend not to celebrate their national patron. But not in the food blog world, oh no!

This year Sam of Becks and Posh (an English woman abroad) and cheeky scampster Monkey Gland of Jam Faced (an Englishman who has been abroad, but is now back) have created the first What's For Pud? event. Bring out your spotted dicks, swirl the cream over the trifle or whisk together a tub of custard to smoother the crumble as it is puds all the way this weekend. If you have a blog you can write your own post and join in the fun. Otherwise check their websites for the recipe links.

Remember though this is England we are talking about. Nothing Scottish, nothing Welsh or Irish thankyou.

St Georges Day Blog Event

Whats For Pud?Sam at Becks and Posh and MonkeyGland at Jam Faced are jointly hosting a big English bloggers party for St. Georges Day - the patron Saint of England.

They invite all cooks to rustle up a pudding in celebration - an English pud of course nothing Welsh, Irish or Scottish thank you very much. Distinctly English.

As Sam writes the English pud is a supreme rendition of all that is great about English cooking - so no piss taking over our love of curries and other takeways!

The post, if you have a blog, should be made on the 23rd April which is your actual St George's Day. The entry should really include a photograph. And a little research into the background is always welcome. "Do whatever is fun for you. And make it DELICIOUS! We don't want to propogate any further bad opinions about English food, do we now?"
