'South Park' Taking Aim at Food Network

So how will Kenny meet his untimely end tonight? Cuisinart? Freak flambé accident? Maybe just a good old 8-inch Henckel?

It may seem like it's been a long time coming (just because, let's face it, so much about the Food Network is ripe for parody), but tonight one cable titan takes aim at another: South Park is giving the likes of Guy Fieri and Alton Brown its signature bobble-head treatment.

Comedy Central isn't saying much about the episode, either in its press release or the 17-second preview clip. All we know is that Stan's dad gets obsessed with the constant stream of filleting, dicing, braising, sautéing, etc. that is the Food Network's raison d'être, and it starts to tear his marriage apart, leaving Stan's mom to pursue a mysterious "new interest" of her own.

Episode #1414 is called "Crème Fraîche," and it airs at 10 p.m. ET, ironically, as Eater.com points out, opposite the finale of "Top Chef: Just Desserts."

Brian Boitano Is a Foodie?

At the intersection of "South Park," the Food Network and professional figure skating there comes this news flash: Brian Boitano is apparently a foodie.

The gold-medal-winning Olympian who spent a career on the ice has decided to heat things up with a Food Network show. Beginning in August, "What Would Brian Boitano Make?" will follow the skater reality-TV style as he whips up "amazing food for a new event in each episode," according to the network.

We are as surprised at this development as we were when we learned of the culinary prowess of the late Danny Kaye (thanks Ruth!). Boitano's sport is known for a jump called the Salchow. Will he dare to go to triple sow-cow territory? Will he cook skate? We'll have to wait and see.

Box Lunch: Going down to South Park

bento
For your lunchtime pleasure, I'm presenting a series of my favorite bento boxes. Bento are Japanese home-prepared meals served in special boxes, usually eaten for lunch at work or school. These days, bento enthusiasts from all over the world share their creations on Flickr.

Bologna makes surprisingly realistic cartoon skin, doesn't it? Sakurako Kitsa's goofy bologna sandwich is decorated with a bologna-faced South Park-style character, complete with zucchini hair and shoes, and a bell pepper shirt. He stands atop a broccoli bush, with Green Goddess dipping sauce adorned with a carrot star.
