Food Porn: Chocolate Dipped Peanut Butter Rice Krispies

I have pie dough in the fridge, pies in the oven, a defrosted turkey and partially prepped veggies in various places around the kitchen. With all the holiday meal prep that we've been doing (I know I'm not the only one), something delicious, but simple, sounds really good right about now. Those pies aren't going to be fair game until tomorrow night. Thankfully, Allie, from Something So Clever posted some really tasty sounding Chocolate Dipped Peanut Butter Rice Krispies. The addition of peanut butter to the standard rice krispie recipe makes them a little bit more interesting. Adults will like them because the peanut butter adds a new salty-sweet dimension to the flavor and kids will like them because they almost all like rice krispie treats. Speaking of kids, these are so easy to make that if you have any kids around at the holidays, you can assign them the job of making a batch to keep them out of your hair as you work on the main meal.

Food Porn: champagne brownies from Amai, reviewed

amai champagne brownies as pictured by alicat
I was interested to know how the fabled Champagne brownies from Amai Bakery tasted. (And let's be honest, I wanted more photos to drool over.) Consider my wish granted.

Alicat at Something So Clever tried the brownies and, though they arrived "a little disheveled," the "adorable nonetheless" brownies had little fortunes wrapped around them. The taste? "The tops and bottoms were a wee bit dry, just a touch crunchy... The middles of these little beauties are ultra rich, almost truffle like bites of luxurious chocolate. I could taste the champagne and loved every minute of it." I think Kelli should hire Alicat to do her publicity photos... these are lovely.

Food Porn: Banana Walnut Coffee Cake

Alicat from Something so Clever can invite me over for breakfast anytime. Her banana coffee cake is made extra moist with cream cheese incorporated into the batter, in addition to butter and mashed bananas. It is topped with a crunchy streusel of cinnamon, sugar and pecans. A coffee cake, unlike its name suggests, is not necessarily coffee flavored nor does it usually contain coffee. It is meant to be served with coffee, much as a tea cake is intended to be served with tea. These cakes are not usually served for dessert as they are perceived to be homey and simple, perfect for a sweet breakfast or coffee break during the day, though many are quite rich with butter or sour cream.
