TGI Cake - Feast Your Eyes

chocolate cake
Ah, Friday. At long last. This calls for a celebration, and, of course, a celebration isn't a celebration without a cake. Preferably one that looks like this one, which was baked, frosted, sprinkled with lovely colors and then photographed by rachel is coconut&lime. Plucked from the Flickr Slashfood pool, it's the kind of cake that makes you feel like throwing a birthday party, even if your birthday isn't until next May. It's got that luscious, thick chocolate icing that's synonymous with the optimism of childhood, while the sprinkles could make even a full ashtray look appealing. It's a cake that could inspire even a non-baker to bake (or at least open a box of cake mix). It's a cake that could cure seasonal affects disorder. It's a cake, in other words, that's worthy of a celebration of its own, regardless of the day of the week.

Halloween Cupcakes Photo Gallery

Halloween is one of those holidays that just begs for cupcakes. Between class parties, office treat tables and seasonal bake sales, there's no better time to put on your cake decorating hat and think creatively. The Slashfood Flickr pool has an amazing assortment of talented artists who have directed their abilities towards the pursuit of the perfect spooky, scary, haunted cupcake.

I've searched through the pool and put together an gallery featuring the best of the Halloween cupcakes added to the pool so far this year (big thanks to all of you who've added your pictures). If you made some Halloween-themed cupcakes (or for that matter, any fun-holiday themed treats) make sure to add them to the pool, as I'd love to see them.

Feast Your Eyes: Pumpkin pecan chocolate chunk cookies

pumpkin pecan chocolate chunk cookies
It is pumpkin time! I've got a couple of edible beauties positioned around my apartment at the moment, looking pretty until I find the time to chop them up, roast them and whirl them down into some versatile puree. If you've got a similar "problem," consider making these Pumpkin Pecan Chocolate Chunk cookies. While they often say that less is more, I think when it comes to these cookies, more is just more.

Thanks Bakerella, for adding these yummy treats to the Slashfood Flickr pool.

Feast Your Eyes: Doughnut hunt

half bitten doughnut
Recently, Joy the Baker headed out on a doughnut quest, searching for the best doughnut in the greater Los Angeles area. She ate the greater part of nine doughnuts at three locations and discovered that one should not eat that many doughnuts in a single morning. She ranked the sprinkle doughnut you see above as one of the best.

Feast Your Eyes: Bite-sized caprese salad

bite-sized caprese salad
Oh summer, what will we do when you're over? We certainly won't be making gorgeous salads like the one you see above. There's truly nothing better than the combination of fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes and roughly torn basil leaves and this is a lovely interpretation of the classic.

Thanks to Lindsay, for adding this tasty pic to the Slashfood pool.
