McDonald's has recalled 12 million "Shrek" drinking glasses because they contain cadmium -- a carcinogen that can cause lung, kidney, intestinal and bone damage, the LA Times reported.
The fast-food chain sold the glasses for $2 each as a promotional tie-in with "Shrek Forever After" -- the fourth and (allegedly) final installment of the Shrek animated film series.
Those who bought the glasses are advised to keep them away from kids and can return them to the restaurant for a refund, the paper reported. The glasses, which feature one of four designs, were sold in May and June.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall Friday after Rep. Jackie Speier (D) received an anonymous tip last week, the paper reported.
Really, when you look at Shrek, what is the first thing that comes to mind? His svelte figure? His healthy glow? His lovely umm...green skin? Though he may not exactly be the poster child for healthy living, McDonald's nonetheless chose him to lead their latest campaign, promoting the healthier choices they now offer to kids on their regular menu and in Happy Meals.
