British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver called Sarah Palin a "Froot Loop" during a panel at Food Network's South Beach Wine and Food Festival this weekend for criticizing the Obama administration's healthy eating initiatives, and said getting healthy foods to kids is a civil rights issue.

Sarah Palin: Cookie Monster or Sweet Avenger?

Sarah Palin is going head-to-head with Michele Obama's efforts to get healthier meals into America's public schools, reports Bloomberg Business Week. The would-be president's latest challenge to the President's wife came as a protest to Pennsylvania Board of Education guidelines that would limit holiday and birthday celebrations -- and thus cake, cookies and candy -- at school. Last week, reported ABC News, Palin showed up at a Bucks Country fundraiser bearing 200 cookies to protest "nanny state" regulations she said were best left to parents.

Next year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture will issue a new version of its controversial food pyramid, which will surely influence what will be served in school cafeterias down the line. Will sugar-coated Sarah and her Tea Party pals swallow any of this? Fat chance. Just look at what happened in Britain a few years ago when a school district banned hamburgers, fries and other fast-food favorites from the lunchroom, while at the same time not letting children who weren't going directly home for lunch leave the grounds. The New York Times reported that mothers, who acquired the nickname "meat-pie mums," began sneaking the forbidden food to their kids over schoolyard fences.

A Vegan, Sarah Palin, and The Greatest Restaurant In The Universe

Andrew Hunt and I have something in common: we're both writing letters to former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

But that's where our similarities stop.

Hunt is a devout vegan who, according to Ontario's The Record, has written Palin a letter extolling the virtues of a vegan lifestyle, which is a diet devoid of any and all animal products, including cheeses and milk. The Republican Party's 2008 Vice Presidential candidate is a very public hunting enthusiast.

But wait, there's more: A professor of history at the University of Waterloo, Hunt promises cordial, weekly letters to Palin about animal rights, vegan recipes, and his experiences as an ex-carnivore.

On Holidash - Palin's Poultry Pardoning & Figgy Pudding

Now that Sarah Palin isn't busy campaigning and dreaming about being the Vice President, she's got to keep busy. This includes conducting interviews in front of a turkey slaughtering contraption while its in use. Talk about setting the scene!

Beyond the gobbles, and bloodshed ... Have you ever wondered what the deal is with figgy pudding? Why do we sing about it, yet never eat it?

Slashfood Ate (8): Vice Presidential Debate Drinking Games edition

The Vice Presidential SealI'm not sure what it is about the 2008 Election that has driven people to the bottle. Sure, coping with the anxiety of tough decisions by imbibing alcohol has been around since, well, the day alcohol was invented (good day, by the way), but this year's campaign for the ages has really upped the ante.

Tonight is the first, and presumably only, vice presidential debate. Maybe it stems from those viral videos of Sarah Palin's Katie Couric interview or Joe Biden's generally gaffe prone nature, but people are expecting it to be a doozy. Many peoples answer: Get boozy.

Googling "Vice Presidential Debate Drinking Game" (in quotes) racks up a respectable 839 results -- and not many are leftovers of Cheney/Edwards. Want to join in on the fun? After the jump see the links to the top 8...
