New Rolling Stone Restaurant Aims to Be the Anti-Hard-Rock-Cafe

Music industry A-listers got a sneak peek last night at the latest place in L.A. to party like a rock star. The Rolling Stone Restaurant and Lounge (or, for those Tweeters and texters in the know, "RS/LA" for short) hosted the likes of Kid Rock, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry, Kelly Osbourne and Jon Bon Jovi at its after-party for the American Music Awards, according to the Associated Press.

The new restaurant/nightclub hybrid (which will open almost a year after the original Slashfood post on the plans) aims to be as perennially hip as its magazine namesake, meaning that it's shooting for a higher cool quotient than that ubiquitous tourist trap, Hard Rock Cafe (which, let's face it, is basically Applebee's with some signed guitars on the wall).

The two-story venue is located in the Hollywood & Highland Center, near the Kodak Theater, home of the Academy Awards. According to Nation's Restaurant News, the downstairs lounge will be operated as a "distinct concept" from the 140-seat restaurant upstairs. It will only be open on select nights, featuring an array of live music or DJs as well as such celeb-worthy amenities as bottle service.

The decor will try to evoke the magazine's edgy style with exposed black brick, tufted leather and vaulted ceilings around an antique iron staircase. The restaurant is slated to open in summer 2010.

No word yet, however, on what kind of grub the Rolling Stone will dish up or on who may be cooking it.
