"rockstar energy drink" news and stories

Nerd Energy Drink

Cal it Revenge of The Nerds Redux. There's a new energy drink on the market for those that don't want wings, don't want want to party like a Rockstar and don't care for a toot of Cocaine. It's called Nerd Energy Drink.

The folks behind the new beverage make all sorts of claims for their product on their web site. Not only is the new pick-me-up the "best tasting energy drink on the market," it also contains special ingredients to enhance mental focus and boost memory retention.

In addition to the usual cocktail of caffeine, B vitamins and amino acids Nerd contains DMAE, a precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Nerd is the brainchild of Vinicio Montes a medical student who designed as alternative to other energy drinks that just made him jittery without giving him any mental clarity. I'm curious to know if anyone out there has tried this new mental tonic.

Controversial energy drink promises drug-like effects

cocaine energy drinkPounding that six-pack of Diet Coke do nothing but bloat you? Does it feel like someone replaced your usual brew with decaf? You could try any number of energy drinks out there, but those don't seem to do much except make your stomach turn over. You need more! More caffeine! More energy! More attitude!

More of a drug-like effect?

Apparently, the latest energy drink to hit the fast and furious market already filled with the likes of Monster, Red Bull, and Rockstar boasts the ultimate high -- one that feels like a cocaine high. Cocaine Energy Drink doesn't contain any cocaine, but with 280 mg of caffeine, it promises the "highest energy content of ANY energy drink on the market today! 350 percent greater than The Bull!"

As you would expect, drug experts, nutritionists, and parents are alarmed. However, James Kirby, the inventor of the drink, says that it does not glamorize nor promote drugs. He said, "Maybe this can help by making parents and kids not afraid to talk about drugs."

Uh, excuse me, Mr. Kirby? He must have been on something when he said something as stupid as that.

Rockstar energy drink: d'ya like the politics or no?

rockstarWhen reading about New Seasons Market in the New York Times, I came across a reference to Rockstar energy drinks and their highly conservative provenance. According to the Times, "Rockstar's chief executive is Russell Goldencloud Weiner, who developed the company with the help of his mother and his father, Michael Savage, the far-right talk radio host." Because of this, New Seasons won't sell the beverage.

I don't drink it because of the high fructose corn syrup, but now I'm considering changing my view to not drinking because of the politics. I did a little surfing and found several references to the "anti-immigrant, gaybashing, intolerant, hate-filled" rhetoric of Savage ("Facism Cola") and the connection between New Season's decision and that of my neighborhood co-op, People's, to stop carrying Oregon Rain water because Lars Larson was their pitchman ("Radio-Active Fallout").
