Restaurant Impossible: The Food Network's New Makeover Show

Restaurant Impossible on the Food NetworkPhoto: Food Network

How'd you like Robert Irvine to makeover your restaurant? The muscle man behind the Food Network's Worst Cooks in America and Dinner Impossible, where he recently succeeded in catering a Six Flags banquet with upcycled park food (think: turkey-leg osso bucco and sage cotton candy), will now be taking on floundering restaurants across America.

Restaurant Impossible premiers on the Food Network on Wednesday January 19 at 10pm and will execute complete turnarounds in two days, with $10,000. Like any proper makeover show, Day One on RI starts with a consultation. In this case, a close examination of the business during its heaviest hours of service in order to determine its weaknesses and flawed employees. Day Two entails a menu-and-staff revamp and ends with a packed grand opening, courtesy Irvine's recruiting of townspeople. Sounds like a PG-rated Kitchen Nightmares to us.

The show is currently in deep casting-call mode, so any interested restauranteurs in the U.S. can apply on the Food Network web site. NOLA.com reports that producers do plan on doing a few makeovers in New Orleans, which will be scheduled once restaurants are chosen and will air "perhaps in February or March."

robert irvine wielding a pepper millLast February, Chef Robert Irvine was removed from his Food Network show, Dinner: Impossible, after it came to light that he had falsified his resume to make his work experience more impressive. Chef Michael Symon was brought in to replace Irvine on the show and the scandal quietly faded away.

Now, in a surprising move, the Food Network has announced that they plan on bringing Irvine back to the show and will be filming six new episodes featured him that will begin airing in March 2009. He says of his return, "I am very excited to continue taping more episodes of 'Dinner: Impossible. I am thrilled to further my relationship with the network and embark on more challenging episodes of this popular series."

There's a new host on Dinner: Impossible

SymonMarisa told you a couple of months ago about Dinner: Impossible chef/host Robert Irvine losing his job because he embellished his resume just a tad (he lied about his experience, including a tiny fib about, um, doing Princess Di's wedding cake). Now the Food Network show has named a new host.

Michael Symon will be the new guy who comes into people's homes to help them with their cooking and tackles crazy food challenges. Not only is Symon one of the Iron Chefs of the network, he actually won the Next Iron Chef competition. The new shows will start airing this summer.

Robert Irvine, Food Network Star Fired for False Resume

Robert Irvine Dinner: Impossible pictureThe Food Network announced today that Robert Irvine, host of the challenge show Dinner: Impossible, has been released from his contract and that they will be looking for a replacement host for that show. Irvine has been mired in scandal ever since it was discovered that he lied about his past cooking experience, specifically his involvement with Princess Diana's wedding cake.

I will be really sad to see him go, as I've always enjoyed Dinner: Impossible. I guess the next stop for Chef Irvine will be a reality show, in which his only virtue is that he once had his own television show.
