How to freeze anything

I hardly ever freeze anything. I mean, yeah, I freeze that I buy frozen and are supposed to be put in the freezer, like ice cream, frozen dinners, and, um, ice. But I've just never been the type of guy who freezes leftovers or freezes foods to be used for another day. I guess I'm a cook-it-and-eat-it guy.

AOL Food has a guide to everything you need to know about freezing though, including tips on how to prevent freezer burn (you can eat food that has freezer burn, just make sure you cut off the part that has the discoloration).

They also have a list of foods that should never be frozen, including cake batter, raw celery, corn on the cob, garlic, and mayonnaise. Though I can't even think of why you'd want to freeze mayonnaise. "Frozen Mayo" is a great name for a band though.

So what's in your fridge?

The Boston Globe has a new interactive feature at their site, where they take a look inside the refrigerators of several local residents. They take a look into the fridges of college students, couples, and couples with several kids. There's also a fridge used by three adults that live together.

I think this is a great idea, though I don't think the Globe went far enough with it (and the fridge used by the single person isn't used by a single person at all, it's used by roommates). But the feature just seems to be a shot of the fridge, then buttons you roll over to see certain items. So we see beer and fat free cheese and meals, but I'm not sure what we're supposed to get out of it besides that, and it gets kinda boring.

Though I gotta say I really want that giant fridge owned by the family in Waban. Mine is 15 years old and falling apart. If you're wondering what's in mine, it's mostly Diet Coke, Perdue chicken, and Dove dark chocolate.

The $21,000 refrigerator as minikitchen

As we saw earlier this week, high-design refrigerators have evolved so much that they make the once-chic Subzero look downright dowdy.

But could anything be further from the sleek Subzero than the refrigerator shown here? Yes, that's a fridge, not an armoire. At $21,000 the La Cambusa costs more expensive than the pimped out Swarovski refrigerator. It's part of the Meneghini line by Robeys whose web site says the design was inspired by a ship's galley. Perhaps one reason for the excessive cost is that like a gallety this fridge is a minikitchen. It features a coffee maker and steam oven. If I couold afford one for my apartment I'd rip out my stove and add some much-needed counter space.

MINI makes a refrigerator

mini cooper smeg refrigerator

Just in case the Swarovski crystal refrigerator is a little bit too much bling for your kitchen, Italian company Smeg, which already has some crazy designs in their catalogue, has partnered with automaker MINI Cooper to make the Smeg FAB28MCS refrigerator. The bright Laser Blue refrigerator with quintessential-MINI white bonnet stripes was created in celebration of MINI's release of their new 2007 models. The FAB28MCS refrigerator is a limited edition, so you'll have to do some hunting to get your hands on one of the 250 units.
