When we were talking about the most
valued basic cookbooks last week, people made some great suggestions in the comments about what their
favorite cookbooks were. Taking that love of cookbooks further, we've started a daily feature with our Cookbook of the
Day, just to give you a little taste of what books are out there.
To kick us off, we have The Best Recipe from Cook's Illustrated. The Cook's Illustrated team is a group of chefs who will make a recipe 237 times, if necessary, to perfect the proportions and produce the finest dish possible. Not only do they provide great recipes and very detailed instructions, but they take the reader through the process of developing the recipe. This way, when you're making an Angel Food Cake, you'll learn why it's important to have the egg whites at room temperature before you start.
The Best Recipe has more than 700 recipes for every kind of food you might want to try, from scones to soup and roast chicken to chocolate chip cookies. The book should be a staple for anyone who wants to really learn how to cook and have their dishes come out right every time. It answers every "why" and "how" that could possibly come along and the things you cook up will leave you saying "mmm!"
There is a New Best Recipe with over 1,000 recipes, if you're looking for a newer edition of the book or one that is even more comprehensive.
