"pimp" news and stories

Pimp My Burger - Burger King's New Whopper Bar

On Tuesday, Burger King opened its first "Whopper Bar" at Universal CityWalk, an entertainment complex in Orlando, Florida. A stand-alone mini-restaurant, it is the first in what the company's president hopes will ultimately be 300-500 burger stands.

Russ Klein, Burger King's president for global marketing, strategy and innovation, refers to the concept as "Pimp my burger." As with the popular television show Pimp My Ride, Whopper Bars will enable customers to personalize a mass-produced product. Although the outlets will offer a "Bar Favorites" menu, with items like the Bourbon Whopper and Pepper Bacon Steakhouse XT, the highlight of the concept lies in its interactive nature. As in a Subway restaurant, customers will be able to watch their sandwiches being prepared and direct employees on which of the 22 topping choices to place on their burgers.

The small size of the bars, combined with their sleek red, black, and gray color scheme, is designed to make them attractive for sophisticated, upscale places, where space is at a premium. Future stands will be situated in cruise ships, stadiums, casinos, and similar places.

While I'm trying to avoid fast food these days, I may have to make an exception when the Whopper bar comes to town...there's something about that bourbon Whopper that seems to demand my attention!

The Creme de la [Cadbury] Creme Egg

The season is a little off on this one, since we usually save our posts about giant Cadbury Creme Eggs for the weeks just before Easter, but the Creme de la Creme Egg that popped up on Pimp That Snack this month just can't wait that long. The giant Cadbury egg is simply the most impressive candy hack that we've seen - and the users of PTS clearly agree, since it's already the top-rated pimp on the site. Not only is it huge in size, but the level of detail that went in to its construction is hugely impressive. The milk chocolate candy shell was built up in layers to the proper thickness necessary to hold in the filling and the shell was carefully engraved with the same star design that is found on the standard eggs. Multiple batches of fondant were prepared before the gooey white center with a dyed yellow fondant "yolk" was poured into the prepared molds and sealed in. The "pimpers" even made a look-alike giant wrapper using acrylic paints on aluminum foil!

By weight, the jumbo chocolate is 56 times larger than the original. It has approximately 10,000 calories and probably contains enough sugar to make your head spin for a month.

Pimp My Snack becomes Pimp That Snack

Apparently, Viacom International Inc., which owns MTV and produces the TV show Pimp My Ride, owns a trademark that covers the use of not only the phrase "pimp my ride" but of "pimp my." As such, they requested that the fantastic snack site formerly known as Pimp My Snack change its name. Without admitting any liability or other intentional wrongdoing, the snack-pimping gang changed the name so that their pimping could continue unimpeded. They can now be found at Pimp That Snack.

If you haven't seen the site before, they take normal snacks and reproduce them in huge (and delicious) proportions. We mentioned them back at Easter, but here are a few looks at what they've been up to recently. Be warned that you may have a strong desire to pimp snacks after hanging around the site:
