"pfeffernusse" news and stories

Happy National Pfeffernusse Day!

Happy National Pfeffernusse Day!

A holiday treat popular at Christmastime in Europe, Pfeffernusse ("peppernuts" in German) are small, ball-shaped cookies spiced with gingerbread spices, like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, cardamon and, most importantly, a dash of black pepper. Once baked, certain recipes can be notably brittle -- and are best consumed dunked into warm drinks.

Add some spice to your sugar and bake up a batch this holiday season.

How much do you know about holiday food?

fruitcakeWhile you're thinking about what to serve for this holiday season, here's something else to think about: AOL Food's quiz on holiday foods. Ten questions on everything from advocaat and candy canes to mulled wine and pfeffernusse.

I got eight out of ten, which is better than I usually do with these quizzes. One I guessed on and got right, and another one I got because they showed a picture that was a huge clue.
