Breakfast Food Porn: Fried quail eggs on crostini

Simple yet spectacular - that is how Adrienne from Nosheteria describes this dish, and I couldn't agree more. Comprised of nothing more than lightly fried, sunny side-up quail eggs, a small piece of toasted crostini brushed with olive oil, and sprinkled with fresh chives, salt and pepper, I'm sure this breakfast dish tastes as wonderful as it looks.

Her recommendation of rounding out the meal with nothing more than a 1/2 grapefruit and strong coffee is quite brilliant too, as the addition of meat, sauce, or some other side item could overwhelm the perfect simplicity of this dish.

Food Porn: Pasta Pomodoro

Here's a bit of food trivia: The word "pomodoro" translates to "golden apple," reflecting that the first tomatoes were yellow, not red. It has been some time since anyone expected Pasta Pomodoro to be made with golden, not red tomatoes, and as Nosheteria proves with her beautiful rendition of the dish, red tomatoes make more of an impact when serving, anyway.

Her pasta pomodoro delivers perfectly cooked spaghetti topped with fresh basil, freshly shaved parmesan cheese and a "double whammy in the tomato department," with both raw, chopped tomatoes and slow roasted cherry tomatoes. The dish is colorful, uncomplicated and uses such a fantastic combination of flavors that it is guaranteed to be a showstopper, despite its simplicity.

Food Porn: Homemade Oreo Cookies

Nosheteria was craving some Oreo cookies and happened to stumble upon Wayne Harley Brachman's cookbook Retro Desserts, which contains a recipe for homemade Oreo cookies. I happen to love my copy of his cookbook and have made homemade graham crackers and other goodies on many occasions. I have not tried these chocolate sandwich cookies, but I definitely will now. Nosheteria says that the cookies taste surprisingly similar to - if not better than - the original Oreos. They are crisp, with just the right amount of delicious vanilla cream filling. I recommend picking up a copy of the book, but the recipe is posted online, too.
