McDonald's needs your rapping skills

Do you remember the old McDonald's commercials for the Big Mac? They had that chant/rap about the special sauce and all that. Well, Micky D's wants to update that marketing campaign and they need your help.

As reported on Fast Food Critic, McDonald's wants you to enter a contest updating the Big Mac chant. You still have to use the special sauce, pickles, lettuce, etc, but they have all kinds of beats and samples you can use at their MySpace page. You can also get all the rules and more info there, too.

Just send in a video or audio tape of your remix, and be chosen by a panel of judges to be a semi-finalist, and your chant will be voted on by the public on July 22. The commercial will then air by the end of July.

With the growing popularity of social networking websites, such as MySpace, it is not very surprising to hear that people are looking to extend the concept into other spaces. Unfortunately, "other spaces" all tend to be in the real world, as opposed to the digital one, where people are likely to be interacting and networking already. One new restaurant in Los Angeles thinks that they have come up with a good balance of real and digital interactions - whether it will be a success remains to be seen.

At uWink Bistro, the customers will have computer touch screens at their tables, from which they can order food without the need for a waiter/waitress. Once their order has been placed, they can play games on the screen or challenge other tables to tournaments. Diners will be sitting in the restaurant, physically with other people, but will virtually interact with the others around them.

FoodCandy: "Friendster for Foodies"

FoodCandy is a social networking service for people who like food, a self-described "Friendster for Foodies." Like Friendster or MySpace, there are options for testimonials and galleries of friends, as well as others for food locales. Like eGullet or Chowhound, there are subject- and region-based forums, which have posts dating back to the beginning of the year. It looks like there are just over 400 users at the moment, and I'm curious to see how the site will develop. I have to wonder: if you already use other social networks like MySpace, as well as food forums like eGullet, is there really a need for something like this?
