The foodblogger's guide to the globe

Food bloggers love food to the point where they have made a hobby out of not just finding, cooking and eating it, but out of sharing it with the world. Melissa, at The Traveler's Lunchbox, came up with a brilliant way that food bloggers could share their recommendations on the very best of what and where to eat in the world with the The Foodblogger's Guide to the Globe. The Guide is a meme in which every participating food blogger chooses their top five things to eat before you die. The original post has a shorthand list of all the suggestions, with links to their full descriptions on individual blogs.

The only problem is, of course, that there are so many food bloggers that you might never be able to try them all - or if you decide to start, you could find yourself jet-setting around the globe in search of food.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

International Dinner Invitation

Notes from the Cape screenshotCraig from South Africa writes “I am hosting an international dinner next month, and I am looking for regional dishes from different countries for each course. The dinner is specifically to raise funds for The John Whiffen Trust, which is committed to providing communication and leadership training to both physically and mentally disabled people in Southern Africa.”

Details are on Notes from the Cape but the entree is to be American, the starter Asian, main course South African, Dessert Italian and the cheeses French.

So get your thinking caps on and send Craig by email or post suggestions on your blog - the very best in your countries cuisine to make this fund raising event a success. Suggestions should be posted on your blog or sent to Craig by the 13th of February.

Virtual Vacation Contest

Virtual Vacation Contest

Two Hawaiian blogs - Ma'ona and Ono Kine Grindz have joined together to create a one off Virtual Vacation Contest.

The idea is to create a food dish you consumed while on a memorable holiday. It should be a dish you had for the first time while abroad. They ask that you blog about the dish with details of the discovery. How successful were you at recapturing the flavours and sensations that you encountered?

What makes this event more exciting is the promise that the best entry will win a hand-picked basket of Hawaiian food stuffs. Not sure that recreating a Cornish Pasty munched in a cold February drizzle in Fowey is really what they are looking for and I know for certain that my culinary skills will not measure up to recreating the delicious fish dishes we had at Rick Stein's place in Padstow either...
