I'm not quite sure how to celebrate Milk Day here. Do I post recipes for milk? I doubt there are any. Recipes that include milk? No, that would take too long. Do I do a post about things you can add to milk, such as Nesquik and Ovaltine? Eh, I don't think that would be such a great idea either.
So I'll open up the thread to readers. How can a person celebrate milk day, besides drinking milk, of course? In a related note, I haven't had whole milk in years. I can drink it anymore, it tastes like heavy cream to me now. I'm a fat free or 1% guy.

If you love the flavor of cereal, but hate the way that it gets mushy in milk, General Mills is
introducing the perfect product for you: cereal-flavored milk. The company has just
signed a 5-year licensing agreement to turn some of its most popular breakfast cereals into low-fat milks. The cereal
flavors will include Trix, Lucky Charms and Wheaties and the milk will be sold in single-serving containers.
I gather that these products are meant to be consumed as a stand-alone product, not with actual cereal. They will
be released around the end of the summer, in time for the back-to-school season. Frankly, I can't see the appeal. The
leftover milk from the bottom of a bowl of Lucky Charms? Thanks, but no thanks.

A study in
the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism revealed that chocolate milk is at least
as good as popular sports drinks for helping the body recover after exercise. As Nick pointed out, athletes who drank the
chocolate milk and the Gatorade performed equally well when asked to exercise again. Athletes who drank Endurox R4, a
sports drink with protein added in the same ratio as milk, only performed half as well, indicating that perhaps some
property of milk - say, the chocolate - might be helping the performance of the athletes as well.
Could it be the antioxidants in the chocolate that are helping? An 8-ounce glass of low-fat chocolate milk will
have about 200 calories and 3 grams of fat, while an 8-ounce glass of Gatorade has only 55 calories. Though some people
worry about the seemingly high number of calories in the milk, the extra calories are not only healthy, but can provide
extra energy to athletes in the long run.

In neighborhood bodegas throughout New York City, the shelves are stocked with cookies, chips and other snack food
items. They carry staples, like bread and milk, but only one in three bodegas carries anything other than whole fat
milk and fewer stock good quality fruits and vegetables, if they have any at all. Many of the city's residents -
particularly those of lower incomes - do most of their shopping at these neighborhood convenience stores, rather than
frequenting larger supermarkets. This means that these shoppers often have limited or less frequent access to
healthier foods.
