Gift Guide: Gifts for the caffeine fiend

coffeeWe continue our gift guides with some ideas for the person in your life who is addicted to legal stimulants. Namely, coffee and tea!

I've been seeing ads for Gevalia coffee and coffee makers for years but I've never tried either (let us know in the comments below how they are). They have a lot of gifts like coffee, coffee makers, chocolate, and biscotti. B & D has a good selection of gourmet coffee at their site (as well as 20 holiday drink recipes). Gloria Jean's has a lot of great holiday coffees too. How about something from Charlie Bean?

Caribou Coffee to introduce K-Cups

Caribou Coffee is the second-largest coffee chain in the country, but despite a presence in 17 states, they are primarily known regionally. To improve their brand recognition with consumers outside of their primary service area, Caribou is expanding its brand profile without following the traditional route of simply opening new stores. Instead, the company has focused on the addition of new products to its retail line, such as granola bars and now, K-cups, both of which are/will be nationall available.

K-cups are single-serve coffee portions produced by Keurig for use in their coffee machines. The foil-covered cups are plastic and packed with coffee grounds and a small filter, so when they are inserted into a Keurig machine, the foil is punctured and the hot water flows into the cup, brewing the coffee.

Hot chocolate: Do you make it with water or milk?

GhirardelliI come from a family that bought Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa in the packets and mixed it with water. It wasn't until later on in my teen years that I even knew that there were people who drank it with - gasp! - milk.

Now I can't make it with anything else but milk. Making it with water just makes it too, well, watery. I've switched to Ghirardelli (though I still get Swiss Miss if the store is out of Ghiradelli), and it just tastes better with milk (even the non-fat stuff I use). My roommate just bought one of the Keurig machines and it comes with "specially formulated" Ghirardelli chocolate for the Keurig maker (though it comes in the regular sized packets and not those individual cups things, so I'm not even sure how you're supposed to make it - do they sell reusable cups you can put the hot chocolate in?), but I'm not going to use water. I like it creamier now.

So, what do you make it with, water or milk? And do you call it "hot chocolate" or "hot cocoa?"
