Obama and McCain Pez dispensers

McCain and Obama Pez dispensersThis election year has seen all manner of cooking and food related products ranging from Hop Obama beer to Hillary and Obama aprons. I suppose those Hillary aprons might have some value for collectors. But except for a Japanese confectioner offering lollipops, I've seen precious little campaign confections out there.

Then I happened on this pair of presidential Pez dispensers from Herobuilders. I've never been much of a Pez collector, though I do own a Homer Simpson dispenser. Herobuilders is offering its presidential "Candydates" for the whopping price of $19.95. I don't plan on buying one, but I do know who I plan to vote for pezident, er, president. No word yet on whether Herobuilders plans to cash in on all the hoopla surrounding Joe the Plumber by making a dispenser bearing his likeness.

Jacques Torres running a white chocolate straw poll

Every election year, different bakeries and candy makers come out with party or candidate-identified treats. They conduct their own, unscientific straw polls, in an attempt to determine what the outcome of the election will be. While elections won't be won or lost over sweet confections, they do add an element of fun to your convention or election return parties.

Famed chocolatier Jacques Torres has thrown his hat into the election-themed chocolates this year, with a pair of white chocolate lollipops. They are available with either a blue donkey for the Dems or a red and blue elephant for the GOP. The back of the blue pops are printed with the slogan "Barack the Vote," the others cheer that "Mac is Back." They run $5 a pop and are hand crafted with some of the tastiest, citrus-infused white chocolate around. They'd make a great election time gift for your favorite policy wonk.

Guess the politicians' favorite foods!

Jones Soda's Campaign Cola

The ever topical entrepreneurs behind Jones Soda have set up an ancillary site at campaigncola.com to tout their new line of politically-based sodas, and spill a little electoral info while they're at it. While copy touts the benefits of being able to ensure the victory of one's chosen candidate via financial support (the "winner" is the candidate whose bottles sell in greatest quantity), the site also contains a handy "Voting Vernacular" page, information about voter registration, and access to a politically-oriented section of the Jones Soda message boards.

While some might argue that save for a few cosmetic details, the "candidates" are essentially identical, or that Jones is just trying to make a buck off the partisan divide, I'm thinking that's pretty much politics as usual.

Super Tuesday Happy Hour

Obama, ClintonToday is Super Tuesday, have you voted yet? Note: please don't try to vote if your state isn't actually holding a primary today.

I was wondering if there are any cocktails named after the remaining candidates, so I did a little digging. Here's a Ciroc Obama cocktail, which includes Ciroc vodka, lemonade, and Chambord. It promises a change...to your taste buds!

I can't find any drinks for Hillary Clinton (though her favorite drink is tea), John McCain, Ron Paul, or Mike Huckabee, so if you have any recipes, let us know in the comments. (Mitt Romney is Mormon, so he'll probably have water or something caffeine-free.)

Drink of the Week has a list of what drinks our Presidents liked. Gerald Ford liked a gin and tonic; Herbert Hoover drank Martinis, and Warren Harding liked everything.

Tip of the Day

December may have peppermint bark, but have you thought to incorporate the taste of autumn into white chocolate with a rich pumpkin swirl?
