When it comes to afternoon coffee or tea, scones are a classic accompaniment. Rather than the heavy and dry creations that so many American coffee shops like to sell to unsuspecting consumers, a real British scone is a bit more like a (US) biscuit, light and somewhat fluffy. They are not particularly sweet, hence the need for jam and cream to be served with them, but they do have a worryingly addictive buttery flavor that will make you reach for a second or third if they are on the small side. These scones were baked up by UK food blogger Jam Faced. They have currants and a bit of orange zest in them, which really provides flavor boost, and they were served with clotted cream and black cherry jam.

Even more beloved than crab cakes, but with no less widespread opinions of what constitutes the pinnacle of the food, are hamburgers.  Jam Faced takes a look at what constitutes the perfect burger, or at least, what makes a good one. He notes that Aussies like a slice of beetroot on theirs - something that is an excellent addition, in my opinion, though I'm not a fan of the stuff off of burgers - and some Brits insist that a fried egg must be layered onto theirs. I know plenty of people in LA who want either chili or the "secret sauce" from In-N-Out to top their burgers, and with the proliferation of "gourmet" burger joints, more people are asking for additions beyond cheese and bacon. I quite like the look of his own burger, which features a large mushroom and a couple of pickles (gherkins), as well as the patty, mustard, cheese and what appears to be bacon.

My only objection to this delicious presentation? I'm quite certain that it wouldn't fit in my mouth.
