Baskin-Robbins teams up with Hershey

If you are tired of buying the same flavors of ice cream all the time, this could possibly shake things up a little for you. Baskin-Robbins has teamed up with Hershey to create Candy Bar Madness ice cream treats - nine different treats that mix various Hershey candy bars (Heath, Kissables / Kisses, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups) into ice creams, shakes, sundaes, and ice cream cakes.

A typical example? The Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Sundae is made from a triple layer of Reese's Peanut Butter Cup ice cream, hot fudge, Reese's Peanut Butter Sauce, and chopped Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I think I gained five pounds just typing that. Decadent, indeed.

As good as it all sounds though, I'm not really sure how different this is from what Dairy Queen is already doing, and I can't help but feel that the last thing we all need is to not just have one dessert or treat, but add another one on top of it at the same time. That said though, I'm willing to bet they sell like crazy.

Food Porn: Green Tea, Lavender, Honey Ice Cream Cupcake

If you enjoy cupcakes and have not yet seen the Cupcake Bakeshop blog, I strongly recommend that you take a look. Cheryl is an amazing baker and comes up with some of the most exotic sounding and beautiful looking cupcakes you'll ever see. Case in point, the delightful cupcake pictured above is made up of a layer of cake, two layers of ice cream and topped off with frosting, making it into a Green Tea, Lavender and Honey Cupcake Bombe - and giving it a name that is as much a mouthful as the cupcake itself. The ice cream layers are lavender and honey, both homemade, and the frosting and cake base are both flavored with matcha (green tea powder), so the whole treat is colorful as well as tasty. As you might imagine, an ice cream cake (with very little actual cake) topped with frosting is quite sweet - but that's how cupcakes are supposed to be, right? Even if you don't want to attempt the whole process of this multi-layered cake yourself, you might want to try one of the two ice cream recipes to add something different to your repertoire.

Food Porn: Ice Cream Cakes

Since it's ice cream day, an ice cream cake seems like an appropriate way to celebrate. I used to make ice cream cakes all the time for family and friends, since their construction was one of the first cake-making techiniques I mastered. At the time I wasn't spending all of my time photographing food like I am now, so I don't have any pictures of those mint chocolate ice cream cakes or the strawberry cream ice cream cake to share here. Fortunately, Flickr has lots of ice cream cakes that are worth sharing. The additional benefits of the digital cakes is that they neither melt nor take up room in your freezer.

The cake above is a Stone Cold Creamery cake made for a birthday party. More cakes after the jump.
