We have winners in the 'I Like You' giveaway

cover of Amy Sedaris' book I Like YouBig thanks to everyone who took the time to enter the Amy Sedaris I Like You giveaway this week. The contest closed yesterday afternoon and we used the Randomizer to selected three winners from the pool of submissions. We've been in contact with our winners and their books will be shipping out tomorrow morning. We're hoping to do more giveaways like this soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

I Like You, Cookbook of the Day (plus giveaway!)

cover of I Like YouAmy Sedaris' first solo book, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, was published in October of 2006. It made a nice splash when it first came out, as people happily embraced a book that was part cookbook, part psychotic party planning guide and all hilarious. Now that it's out in paperback, chances are that it will be reaching an even wider audience. Amy Sedaris has deeply twisted way of looking at the world (and I mean that in the best way possible) that allows her readers to see how ridiculous it is to take life so seriously.

In the book, she offers celebratory cake ideas that range from a Halloween ghost cake with flaming eyes to a Happy Coming Out cake. The photo spreads are reminiscent of food pictures you might find in a giveaway recipe pamphlet from 1963 (but always with a unexpected twist) and the recipes are peppered with little gems like, "I like making dishes that I can eat out of the pot, standing up, over the stove."

Because we love Amy Sedaris and I Like You so much, we're giving away three copies to three lucky Slashfood readers. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post before Thursday, October 30th at 5 pm (make sure you include your email address so we can get in touch with you). We'll be in touch if you're a winner and send you out your very own copy of the book.

Also, if you happen to live in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, Amy Sedaris will be appearing tomorrow evening (Wednesday, October 29th) at 5 pm at Foster's Homeware.

Amy Sedaris' Lil' Smoky Cheese Ball

Amy SedarisAmy Sedaris is one of my favorite performers, and she also happened to write one of my favorite cooking/entertaining books, I Like You. She was on Martha Stewart's show earlier this week (her second visit) and I unfortunately missed it. But thank God for the internet! Martha has posted (well, I doubt she posted it - I really can't see her sitting down and working the HTML and uploading pictures) a video of her appearance, where Amy and Martha each made cheeseballs.

Amy's was from her book. Lil' Smoky Cheese Ball sounds like the perfect appetizer for your guests, and very easy to make. Here's the video from Martha, and after the jump the full recipe.

Amy Sedaris does Halloween!

Amy Sedaris and friendAs readers of our TV Squad blog know, I'm a huge Amy Sedaris fan. She has a new book out that is not only "good," it's fantastic. A cookbook/entertaining book that isn't just all humor. It's a book you can actually use. It has some great idea, recipes (a couple hundred, actually), great pics. A lot of thought went into it. Oh, and it's funny as hell too.

Over at Gourmet magazine, they asked her to give some tips for the perfect Halloween celebration. It includes a discount movie theater dinner party, a meal made to be eaten in the dark (meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and corn - you don't have to see it to eat it), her famous cupcakes, and drinks (Bloody Marys and Zombies, of course). She even likes to have her Halloween night guests carve a pumpkin.

Click here to order Amy's book, and check out her tour schedule here.

Tip of the Day

Drying fruit is easy, mostly hands-off and yields a sweet and healthy snack.
