"hospitality under the influence" news and stories

I Like You, Cookbook of the Day (plus giveaway!)

cover of I Like YouAmy Sedaris' first solo book, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, was published in October of 2006. It made a nice splash when it first came out, as people happily embraced a book that was part cookbook, part psychotic party planning guide and all hilarious. Now that it's out in paperback, chances are that it will be reaching an even wider audience. Amy Sedaris has deeply twisted way of looking at the world (and I mean that in the best way possible) that allows her readers to see how ridiculous it is to take life so seriously.

In the book, she offers celebratory cake ideas that range from a Halloween ghost cake with flaming eyes to a Happy Coming Out cake. The photo spreads are reminiscent of food pictures you might find in a giveaway recipe pamphlet from 1963 (but always with a unexpected twist) and the recipes are peppered with little gems like, "I like making dishes that I can eat out of the pot, standing up, over the stove."

Because we love Amy Sedaris and I Like You so much, we're giving away three copies to three lucky Slashfood readers. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post before Thursday, October 30th at 5 pm (make sure you include your email address so we can get in touch with you). We'll be in touch if you're a winner and send you out your very own copy of the book.

Also, if you happen to live in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, Amy Sedaris will be appearing tomorrow evening (Wednesday, October 29th) at 5 pm at Foster's Homeware.
