With a length of more than two feet of rubbery goodness, the Vat 19 gummy worm is the perfect solution for all of you who prefer your candy mutant looking (the worm version of the irradiated ants in the 1950s horror flick "Them"). In fact, the company claims it's the world's largest worm, at three pounds (and it offers a couple days' worth of calories, 4,000 to be exact).

Don't worry about eating it all in one sitting, though (and, frankly, we don't even want to go there) -- it has a shelf life of about a year. And if you need something a little more cuddly than a huge worm, you can always opt for Vat 19's five-pound giant gummy bear.

Back in the early seventies, my parents lived a necessarily frugal lifestyle. They had a vast garden and kept chickens in the backyard of their little Santa Cruz house. When it came to interior decor, their style was thrift store chic. The light fixture in the dining room of that little house a bare bulb and so, in order to conceal it a bit, they crafted a chandelier out of styrofoam cups. It did the job and looked pretty cool (although one questions the ecological sustainability of the medium now).

However, if they had been thinking more creatively, maybe they would have hit upon the idea of using edible gummy bears (did they even exist in the seventies?) in their light fixture construction. Artist YaYa Chou determined recently that gummy bears would make an excellent chandelier and crafted the truly impressive one that you see above. It is also made of beads, monofilament, plastic, metal and light bulbs. Looks good, and in a pinch, could be quite delicious.

I've always had a weird obsession with all things gummy. I was thrilled when my friend returning from Berlin brought me gummibonbons courtesy of Bear's and Friends Fruchtgummi, and told me, 'you must go to Berlin, it's the gummy capital of the world!" Before I knew it, I had entered the magical realm of digital gummy love, complete with sing-a-longs and frolicking gelatin.

Bears and Friends is apparently a revered mecca of gummy-ness in Germany. The website welcomed patrons with dancing bears and a synthesized gospel choir rejoicing gummy... and miraculously the experience got even better. After some translation difficulties, I stumbled across the diversified melange of products, and squealed. My findings:

- Playboys and Playgirls for only 5.90 euros per kilogram.
- White Mice, only available in Vanilla and Citrus, obviously
- Some variously sized gummies that appear to have the words 'Wine' and 'Bum' printed on them (?)
- Some cowboy looking nuns holding produce (???)
