My method of choice for cooking hot dogs is on the barbecue, though if I can't cook outdoors (since I don't
have a toaster) I'll often broil them, too. In both cases, my dogs will end up with some dark marks on the side that was most exposed to the heat. This will be a stripe on the broiled dogs and a series of grill marks on the 'cued ones. I love those marks now, but I know that when I was a kid I always choose the most evenly colored dog, which is why the existence of the
Hot Dog Roller makes sense to me. The roller is designed to slide the hot dogs around on the grill to ensure even cooking. In the process, it prevents grill marks from forming, so if you like you're dogs evenly colored or have to feed a party of kids, this seems like a great gadget to have on hand, even though I'll stick to the old fashioned way myself.
