Burger of the Day: Gothamist goes to Landmarc

landmarc burger
Given that we are un-confirmedly in the midst of National Burger Month, it is my duty to bring to you, Slashfoodies, a whole buffet of burgers. Today, super-NYC Gothamist takes us to Landmarc, a new restaurant in the Time Warner Center.

Gothamist Robyn (who also writes her own blog The Girl Who Ate Everything) reports on a medium rare burger on a grilled, salt-sprinkled brioche bun that made her feel like she "might explode from the intense meat density of the juicy, but not overly so, patty." If you need photographic evidence of the meat intensity, click through and take a peek at her close-up shots of the burger.

And if you have a good tip about a burger this month, let us know!

Food Porn: Colorful egg custard tarts

Egg custard tarts are one of the best things you can get at a good Chinese bakery and a great incentive to go out for dim sum around lunchtime. They have a flaky, melt-in-your-mouth crust and a tender, eggy filling. I have never before seen them in multiple colors like these tarts that Tien Mao got at the Egg Custard King Cafe in New York. The tarts in the photo are flavored with almond, strawberry, honey dew, and mango, but the cafe offers other varieties, including traditional, banana and egg white, as well. The tarts are only 60-75¢, so be sure to pick up one or two if you're visiting.

Pining for McD's Shamrock Shake

I first heard of this McDonald's mint shake that's offered in the month of March on Chowhound the other day. Apparently this triple-thick threat, er treat, holds fond childhood memories for some folks who are seeking it out only to find their local Mickey D's no longer carries it. Full disclosure: I have no childhood memories, fond or otherwise, of this spacklish looking green confection.

Ronald and company used to offer this frappé throughout the month of March with much greater frequency. Apparently there are some parts of the U.S. where it's now, hold onto your Happy Meals kids, completely unavailable.

Chowhounds aren't the only ones baying for the return of this seasonal shake. Gothamist notes that New York City residents are also craving the shake. There's also a Web site, Bring Back The Shamrock Shake, where fans can fill out petition to McDonald's. They can also read the origin of the fabled Uncle O'Grimacey.
