Golden Globes Watch: And the Winning Dish Is...

Matt Damon and Scarlet JohannsenPhotos: Taylor Hill / FilmMagic; Jason Merritt / Getty Images

Ten days and counting until the 68th Golden Globe Awards show (January 16th on NBC). And yes, we do wonder what Matt Damon will say when he presents the Cecil B. DeMille Award to Robert De Niro. And we do care which designer dress that Matt's fellow presenter Scarlett Johansson will have chosen for the red carpet. But what we really wanted to know is: What will the stars be eating at the Golden Globes dinner?

So we got the early dish from Chef Katsuo "Suki" Sugiura at the Bevery Hilton (the hotel that's played host to the Globes 40 times over). With nearly 1,300 guests to feed during the live telecast (jaded eaters, all), here's what Chef Sugiura has up his sleeve for host Ricky Gervais, and nominees ranging from Nicole Kidman to Colin Firth.

Seated at dinner tables topped with vases of antique gold- and rust-toned roses designed by Mark Held, the glitterati wiill start with appetizers that are veggie forward:
Grilled Eggplant with Edamame and Red Pepper Hummus with Marinated Artichoke and Arugula.

Then, an entrée combo with a nod to the Central Valley, where much of California produce is raised. They're bold, Black Swan bold:
Grilled Beef Tenderloin of Beef with Caramelized Fennel Marmalada and Sautéed Mild Chili; and Sesame Crusted Filet of Pacific Sea Bass.

Orville Redenbacher gets digitized

Last year, Sun-Maid's iconic mascot, the Sun-Maid maid, got a makeover so the brand would have a new look. Her overall appearance remained very similar, but she was digitized. The newly three dimensional character talks, does yoga and promotes California raisins, but even though she was one of the first ad icons to undergo this overhaul, she isn't the only one. Orville Redenbacher has recently been digitized so that he can continue to convincingly promote his famous popcorn brand over ten years after his death. The first ad to use digital Orville will air during the Golden Gloves and will depict "Redenbacher [pitching] popcorn while jiving to his MP3 player." A preview clip can be seen here.

With the amount of technology that went into the ad, it is the company's most expensive ever, but as we have seen from the movie industry, an expensive venture doesn't always yield blockbuster results. Opinions vary on whether this was a good idea or a bad one. Some, including Redenbacher's grandson, see it as a way to remember the man and even feel that he would have loved the idea himself. Others think that there is "a certain creepiness" to the revival of a long-dead man.

Adios to Trader Vic's in Beverly Hills

beverly hilton, tracer vic's

You might not know exactly where the Beverly Hilton is in Beverly Hills, but you certainly know about the Beverly Hilton if you watch the Golden Globe Awards, which are hosted there every year. The "new" owner, who purchased the hotel from Merv Griffin two years ago, has planned to tear down some existing structures on the hotel's property to build condos, including the old-school Trader Vic's restaurant. Apparently, the legendary Polynesian restaurant, famous as the godfather of the Mai Tai, is one of the hotel "elements that no longer work."
