"Mouth-Watering" Sit-Com to Debut on Fox

Photo: 2010 FOX BROADCASTING

Take one hapless dad, one long-suffering mom and mix in three wacky kids. What do you have? The basic recipe for yet another animated family sitcom on Fox.

Yes, starting January 9, the home of Sunday night's "Animation Domination" is serving up what it's billing as "the juiciest, meatiest, most mouth-watering comedy of the year." That's because the twist here (i.e., what makes this "not The Simpsons") is that the new show, Bob's Burgers, is set in a family-owned burger joint.

If there's anything that's going to make you want to order pizza instead, it's the gelatinous-looking ooze of animated burger grease.

Apparently Bob Belcher (excuse me) is a third-generation restaurateur who believes his creation of the perfect burger more than compensates for his dive's other shortcomings (e.g., rampant health-code violations). His wacked sense of business acumen is on display in the front window, with a promotional sign: "Free Ketchup and Napkins!" A two-minute preview clip features two different grill fires.

Gordon Ramsay is bringing a new show to American TV

View of Gordon Ramsay from the side, with a headset on and hands out in front of him.
For fans of Gordon Ramsay's reality TV shows on Fox, there's some good news. According to Grub Street, Fox has just renewed both Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares for two more seasons. But wait- there's more!

The media empire that is Gordon Ramsay is also going to adapt another of his BBC shows for American audiences. The show is called Man Camp, which will be sort of a boot camp where Gordon will make men more manly at least in part by teaching them to cook. I can not wait to see this.

Fox has also signed Mr. Ramsay to do a live cooking event which will be "cooking for the young, the vibrant and the tenacious." Sign me up!

Burger King wants to Simpsonize you

The SimpsonsI didn't even know that this site had anything to do with a cross promotion that Burger King is doing with the new Simpsons Movie. Even though I went to the site and saw that creepy king guy before I saw a commercial for the site last night it still didn't register.

But this site works really well. You upload a picture of yourself and it turns you into a Simpsons-ish character. I can't find a good enough picture for myself (it has to be a fairly close-up face pic, in color, and at least 640x480 pixels), but a friend of mine did it and the character it created was uncanny. If you do it, put in a link to your site in the comments and show us the results!

When animals compete...

It's something of a mystery as to where the FOX network gets some of their programming ideas, so the original inspiration for this particular segment is anyone's guess. Since Takeru Kobayshi can out-eat just about anybody, FOX decided to have him face off against a Kodiak bear - an 8-ft tall, 1000-lb animal - in a hot dog eating competition.

The clip is pretty funny, actually. The announcers treat it almost like a wrestling match and the best line is when they start to talk about the bear's technique vs. Kobayashi's. "[The bear] has a very different approach to eating. See, he looks away and he takes a break. He doesn't know it's a competition. He's just a natural eating machine." For his part, Kobayashi definitely knew it was a competition and didn't take his eyes off the bear.

Who emerged victorious? You'll have to watch the clip to find out, but I will say that someone is already eagerly awaiting a rematch.
