Waitress fired for political reasons

john McCain in a crowd with US flag behind them.I was under the impression that you couldn't get fired for political views anymore. Apparently that was the reasoning behind a waitress being fired in Arkansas this week.

Michah Qualls says she was fired for her political views, but allowed to finish working the lunch shift before being let go. She used her personal break to hold up a pro Hilary Clinton sign along the route that John McCain used to roll through town.

The article was a little sketchy on details, so it's hard to say whether there weren't other circumstances that led up to her dismissal. If she was fired for her political views, I'm sure she has legal options. Still it's hard to imagine her boss actually saying that was the reason she was being let go.

What do you think about this?

Challenging your boss to a meat cleaver duel is not a good idea

A Chinese cleaver knife.
Have you ever been fired from a job? It's a horrible experience, I'm sure, but no matter what you might want to do, I bet you never challenged your boss to a duel with a meat cleaver.

That's what a Chinese cook in Dumbarton, Scotland did upon being fired this week. Unfortunately, he also threatened to chop his boss up and said that he had already done that to someone else, so he had to be taken into custody be the authorities. The cook was fired because he couldn't produce a work permit, and was sentenced to seven months in jail.

I can imagine that you might think crazy things if you were to be fired, but to actually threaten your ex boss is taking things a little too far. To actually brandish a weapon at him or her is definitely a sign of instability. While I feel bad for anyone who gets let go, let's just try to remember that getting fired is not worth going to jail for.

Robert Irvine, Food Network Star Fired for False Resume

Robert Irvine Dinner: Impossible pictureThe Food Network announced today that Robert Irvine, host of the challenge show Dinner: Impossible, has been released from his contract and that they will be looking for a replacement host for that show. Irvine has been mired in scandal ever since it was discovered that he lied about his past cooking experience, specifically his involvement with Princess Diana's wedding cake.

I will be really sad to see him go, as I've always enjoyed Dinner: Impossible. I guess the next stop for Chef Irvine will be a reality show, in which his only virtue is that he once had his own television show.

Blogger fired for Rachael Ray post

Everything in Moderations's blogger, Donny B., was fired from his job following a post he wrote about Rachael Ray. His former place of employment was identified as Sur La Table.
The post concerned a book signing at the store. The post's title, "Rachael Ray is not God" was not intended to negatively reflect upon her, as much as it was intended to poke fun at the store patrons who oohed, aahed and snapped their camera phones wildly as the perky cook made her way through their midst.

Don even admits to being won over by her himself after a brief exchange (and his offer of a slice cheesecake to her) following her signing, so the post does not come off as particularly critical of Rachael. The problem the store had with the post was actually to be found in the comments section, according to the blogger.
