...well, not forever. Technically, only for 21 days, along with all animal products, caffeine, sugar, alcohol, and gluten. Oh, right: and she's calling it a "cleanse," in hopes that it will prepare her for her "inner makeover."

Now, giving up alcohol, caffeine, and animal products is a difficult decision, and one that shouldn't be taken lightly.

But, (big surprise), I have several issues with this. First of all, I dislike the word "cleanse." It's often associated with that ridiculous maple syrup/cayenne pepper diet, and don't even try to convince me that it works, because depriving yourself of food is simply unhealthy, I don't care if you feel "amazing" or not (most likely, that "amazing, high" feeling is the effects of oxygen depletion to your brain, sweetie).

It looks like Ohio State isn't the only college football team that's going to get their own brand of cereal this season. The University of Florida Gators are getting a line of Frosted Flakes Corn Cereal, which are a limited edition item to commemorate 100 years of Gator football. The cereals will be available at 250 Publix markets throughout the state.

Some fans are buying it for the box, which could be something of a collectors' item to a die-hard fan, but others are simply buying the cereal because they like frosted flakes for breakfast. No matter what the reason behind the purchases, Publix says that the cereals are selling quickly and that they expect to see sales climb throughout the season or until the stocks, since it was produced in a limited run, run out.

Last Sunday, Showtime launched Brotherhood, a drama about about Irish mafia. A recent MSNBC article wonders if the series will do for Irish food what the Sopranos did for Italian fare. Could we see an increase in fans gathered around the tube with plates of corned beef and cabbage? I missed the first episode, but according to MSNBC, food doesn't figure nearly as prominently in Brotherhood as it does in the Sopranos. One character on the show is supposed to be a notoriously bad cook. Will there be Irish cookbook tie-ins? I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

The German beer supply is in danger as a result of British World Cup fans' unquenchable thirst. According to a recent article in The Mirror, the 70,000 England fans visiting Nuremberg drank about 17 pints each-roughly 1.2 million in all. One calculation put that at 200 pints per minute. "The hardest thing for the breweries is keeping up with the thirst of the English," said one brewery spokesman. I'm a little curious about how they attribute beer sales to certain groups of fans. Sure, a beer vendor can say, "Wow, the people in the ___ jerseys were sure poundin' em'," but how do you pin large figures on one group? Surely those vendors must have been selling to other fans as well. Nevertheless, there are the personal accounts. "Never have I seen so many drink so much in such little time," said one bartender. As Andrew noted, his people are a hungry bunch, too.

All you Tab drinkers out there should get a kick out of a New Yorker story about the love for the pink can in the journalism world. In a recent Talk of the Town section, Ben McGrath quotes several Tab lovers, including Atlantic Monthly owner David Bradley, who describes the diet-cola-loving clique as "a lonely but inspired society." New York Times film critic David Edelstein talks about a keen ability to scan shelves of beverages and find the prized pink cylinder and former Washington Post editor Steve Isaacs even has his journalism students brainstorm story ideas based on Tab. There's also talk of the new Tab Energy drink, but, as long as regular Tab is still around, it doesn't really sound like anyone will care.
