Sierra Nevada Brewery to Convert Beer Yeast to Ethanol

A California brewery's beer will soon be able to get you tanked -- twice.

The Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., of Chico, Calif., will begin converting its used brewer's yeast into ethanol, the company announced this week.

The maker of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale has partnered with EFuel100 to convert the yeast starting in April, an official tells Slashfood.

"We generate tons and tons of spent brewer's yeast during the brewing cycle every day, and we'll be taking that yeast which has residual alcohol from the fermentation process left in it and converting it into biodiesel fuel to run our local route trucks," said Bill Manley, the brewery's communications coordinator.

Catch a clip of King Corn

Remember back in October when I posted about the independent movie, King Corn? The movie wasn't in wide release when we first mentioned it, and so a number of you expressed interest in seeing it, but weren't able to find a screening anywhere. It's gotten wider distribution over the last six months, but for those of you who haven't been able to find the time or place to see it, I've got partially good news for you. A twenty minute clip of the film is now available on AOL video site, which means that I can embed that chunk of the movie here, for your viewing pleasure.

Drink more fruity drinks, they're good for you

Fruit drinkResearchers in the U.S. and Thailand have discovered that the more fruit you have in an alcoholic drink the better it is for you.

It's actually the ethanol that you find in drinks such as rum and vodka. When it is added to fruity drinks it actually makes the fruit part of the drink even healthier.

Is this really surprising news for anyone? We know that some alcohol, in moderation, can be good for you, so it stands to reason that if you add fruit to the mix they're going to add vitamins and minerals and nutrients. Though the fact that certain alcohol can actually increase the power of the fruit is interesting.

So there you go, another reason to have a Hump Day Happy Hour after work today.
