Farmers Market Perched on Trump Tower Chicago

There's a farmers market coming to a decidedly un-farmy location on September 2nd: Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago's signature restaurant, Sixteen (it's on the 16th floor of the 92-story building), is having a brunch with an ancillary rooftop farmers market. It will be open to the public from 7 to 11 a.m. (you can visit whether you have the brunch or not).

With each season of this year, Chef Brunacci has been whipping up menus with his favorite farms in mind for a series called "Feasting at Sixteen with Frank Brunacci." Now in its third installment (late summer), Brunacci will focus on "prairie produce."

While Sixteen has always served Midwestern-grown ingredients, every meal of "Prairie Produce" week will only feature food harvested within driving distance of Chicago. The meals will have detailed menus, highlighting each ingredient by source and history, and the staff can also answer questions about the ingredients and how or why the chef chose to use them.

Snapple's "Celebrity Apprentice" Inspired Ice Tea Giveaway

While many people were tuned into last night's 'Lost' finale, we were with some of our editors were watching 'The Celebrity Apprentice' finale (awaiting Bret Michael's first appearance since his brain hemorrhage). To catch you up quickly, the two finalists, Bret Michaels and Holly Robinson Peete, had to formulate a new flavor of Snapple Iced Tea and come up with a 30-second commercial spot and brochure. While we won't reveal the winner here, Slashfood tried out the two new flavors, which are available in stores now.

We went desk to desk, asking co-workers what they thought -- it was more divided than we thought. Holly's Compassionberry Tea (passion fruit and strawberry combined with green and black tea) was "refreshing and had a delicate flavor." "It's what I would expect in an iced tea, it's crisp and clean," said Alicia Roda, an editor on Moviefone. While some people believed Bret's Trop-a-Rocka (pear, cinnamon and mango combined with green and black tea) was too sweet and had a "cough syrup taste," others found it to be a "perfect mixer for a refreshing summer cocktail" and tasted similar to "peach cobbler" with a "cinnamon-spicy aftertaste." Overall, our office preferred Compassionberry, but we want to hear what you think.

Slashfood is giving away free samples of both flavors to five lucky readers to do conduct your own taste test.

Find out how to enter after the jump.

Tavern on the Green Gets Unlikely Resurrection

One of New York City's most famous restaurants, Tavern on the Green, which shut down earlier this year, is now in negotiations to reopen . . . as a snack bar, visitor's bureau and retail facility.

It's an admittedly plebian chapter in the restaurant's storied history, having been known throughout the world for its opulent dining areas and incandescent shrubbery. (Let it be said it was also famous for its inferior food, but patrons kept coming for its glitzy décor and Central Park location.)

Reality-Show Celebrities Serve Up Chef Curtis Stone's 'Hundred-Dollar Burger'

In retrospect, it all sounds like something out of one of those strange dreams where everyone you watched on TV during the day converge into one subliminal place -- and Bret Michaels was there, and so was Rod Blagojevich! And Sinbad was taking Al Roker's drink order while Joan Rivers recommended the $100 burger. Oh Auntie Em, there's no place like home!

In reality, it was just another day in the life of a "Celebrity Apprentice."

When Slashfood received word through the grapevine that our very own "Star Chef" Curtis Stone was serving up gourmet cheeseburgers for charity at Burger Heaven on Monday, we had to go and root for the home team.

Donald Trump, the real-estate mogul renowned for his marriages and his involvement with a variety of pageants beginning with Miss, likes his Oreos ... especially when they dance.

We found the Donald last week at Trump Tower with a dancing Golden Double Stuf Oreo mascot. "The Apprentice" host was there to announce his intent to "purchase" the Oreo Double Stuf Racing League (DSRL), a faux league where family and friends race to see who can finish an Oreo cookie and single glass of milk the fastest.

"I only do products that I really like, and this product I really like," Trump said. "I started by loving Oreos and now I ended by doing a commercial for the people who made Oreos."
