When you're making S'mores, all you think about is getting your chocolate-marshmallow fix, right?

But does anyone ever think of the marshmallows? What about how they feel, getting jabbed onto the end of a dirty branch and thrust into a hot flame?

Well, let me tell you: they hate it. And they'd take any opportunity to get revenge. Gee, if only there were a t-shirt to illustrate this point...

Small microbreweries in Texas are lobbying to sell beer directly to the public to open up an entirely new sales area for the industry. Presently, the Texas A & B code only lets microbreweries sell to distributors and retailers. This puts Texas craft breweries at a disadvantage to those in other states where sales directly to customers are allowed.

To improve this, Saint Arnold Brewing Co. in Houston, TX is presenting a proposition to change the current beverage code. This proposal is supported by all five Texas microbreweries, which have joined together to recruit a sponsor to put it before the Legislature in the form of a bill. Brock Wagner, founder of Saint Arnold Brewing says that as many as 14 Texas microbreweries have gone out of business for various reasons since craft breweries first opened in the mid-1980s and early 1990s.

This proposal follows strongly on the heels of the strongly supported 2003 Proposition 11, which changed the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission code to allow state wineries to directly sell limited quantities of wine. The founder of Rahr & Sons, Fritz Rahr, thinks that Texas voters would again support such a change in the beverage law. He says, "It's time Texas craft brewers are offered the same customer-friendly advantages that Texas wineries already have."

When my girlfriend showed me pictures of knitted cupcakes in a book of knitting projects, I just sort of chuckled. Today, when I came across an enormous list of food-related crochet projects, like the eggs and bacon you see here, I was forced to grapple with the fact that this is an entire genre. I know that there's definitely some overlap between the food bloggers and the craft/knit/crochet bloggers, and I'm sure some of you fall into both categories. Personally, when I see a knitting needle I'd rather put some shrimp on it, but nevermind that. There are some pretty creative and bizarre projects out there. This week the competition on Top Chef got even more intense as the  contestants faced one of their most difficult challenges yet. Not only did the chefs have to cook, but they had to come up with a concept and start a restaurant from scratch. The needed a name, decor, tableware and, most importantly, time, which they didn't have. As an unusual twist in this episode, the incentive of immunity was eliminated from the quickfire challenge and instead, a prize was offered to the winner. There was no guest judge, either. Chef Tom Colicchio stepped up to offer the challenge and the prize.

Tom is opening a branch of his restaurant, 'wichcraft, the fast food variation of his craft restaurant, in San Francisco and asked the chefs to prepare the perfect sandwich, a food that 'wichcraft specializes in. The winner would get his or her sandwich on the menu when the West Coast 'wichcraft opened. Fast, portable and delicious would win in the sandwich competition. All the chefs did well, but Miguel's Falafel sandwich was the flavor winner. Unfortunately, Miguel made his a "deconstructed" sandwich, which meant that it had to be eaten with a knife and fork. A sandwich without bread is not a sandwich, and instead of Miguel, Tom gave top billing to Harold's sandwich of mortadella with grapes, roasted peppers and sunchoke mayonnaise on sourdough. The recipes for Stephen and Dave's sandwiches, both of which looked delicious, are on the Bravo site.

I usually leave the craft blogs to my better half, but poco-cocoa seems to be just as much food blog as craft/home blog. Particularly cool, I thought, was Crystal's tablecloth, embroidered with "This Is Just To Say," by William Carlos Williams. Most of you are probably familiar with the poem, perhaps Williams' most famous, about a couple of plums and an icebox. If not, it's printed in its entirety (all 12 lines) over at poco-cocoa. I've always been fond of WCW's simplicity, and I think it's especially pertinent as it applies to food. Also, I like the idea of keeping this poem around in the kitchen or at the table. It's a cool project, indeed.
