I have pretty basic tastes when it comes to hot dogs. Give me a hot dog and a bun and maybe some mustard and I'm good to go. But this recipe from Cooking For 2 seems rather interesting.
They're called Red Dogs, and they're turkey hot dogs that are cooked with currant jelly and Dijon mustard.
Some foods taste great but they don't exactly have names that instill confidence that they'll taste great. Other foods have a name that just makes you want to bite into the letters, and Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins is such a food.
This recipe is from the always fun Cooking For 2 blog. But you can make these muffins even if you find yourself alone on a Friday night (especially if you find yourself alone on a Friday night). Full recipe after the jump!
When I was a kid, up to the age of around 16 or 18, I ate oranges like you wouldn't believe. In the months that the store had good ones (those big, juicy Sunkist oranges with the thick skin), I would probably eat three a day, every day. I figure that I ate so much that I should probably have some sort of super power by now, maybe the ability to fly or maybe create oranges out of thin air to hurl at the villains in my life. But I don't have any super powers, unless you call being good at TV trivia a super power.
Anyway, I never really ate blood oranges. But I love the sound of it: blood oranges. After the jump, a recipe for Blood Orange Chicken from the Cooking For 2 blog.
Is there something wrong with me that I like the weather we're having here today? It's rainy and sleety (if that's a word), raw, and cold, and I just love it. I'll take this weather over a sunny, 85 degree July day any day of the week.
But we do need some things to help us get through these days, and soup is one of those things. Soup is good food and all that (I would put hot chocolate, a blanket, and a good book on that list too). This recipe is from the Cooking For 2 blog, and it's for Roasted Red Tomato Soup. It's pretty easy to make and seems both soothing and hearty.
It's red, so maybe this would be a good Valentine's Day meal for you and yours.
One of my plans for the new year is to bake more. I've never been a huge baker (except for cookies, and making toast - oh, wait, that's not baking). Too much exact measuring, too many bowls, too much mess. But I really like the foods that you get from baking, so I really should start.
These Pumpkin Streusel Muffins from Cooking For 2 sound great. They have that mix of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and brown sugar that just scream winter comfort food. Full recipe after the jump.
Since I started writing for Slashfood, I've discovered that people seem to just love bacon. Whenver I have a bacon-related post people seem to chime in with words about their love of all things bacon. So I saw this recipe and knew I had to post about it.
This is the classic example of two different foods that I love so I assume that if I put them together into one dish I'm going to love it even more. Of course, this doesn't quite work with other foods that I love, like ice cream and baked beans, but you know what I mean. This comes from the great Cooking For 2 blog.
I'm ashamed to admit this, but I don't own a crockpot. It's just one of those kitchen items I haven't bought for myself yet, but I'm going to remedy that this winter. I'm starting to realize that many of the recipes that have intrigued me lately start with the phrase, "Put the ingredients in a crockpot..."
This comes from the Cooking For 2 blog, and it's a recipe for Crockpot Thanksgiving Turkey. You've had it roasted from the oven, you've had it in sandwich form, and you may have even had it deep-fried, so try it crockpotted (?).The ingredients include turkey gravy, sage, Worcester sauce, garlic, pepper, and bacon. Mmmm...bacon.
Who here eats cranberries or drinks cranberry juice on a regular basis? It's really popular here in New England and one of the basic fruits/juices. Beyond cranberry sauce at holidays dinners I mean. According to Wikipedia, cranberries are a major crop in Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, New Jersey, Wisconsin, and parts of Canada.
Our friend Jade over at Cooking For 2 has a great recipe for Cranberry Cake. Like all of the recipes at her blog, it's very easy to follow. Full recipe after the jump (but visit her site too for a lot of great things to make).
Mmmm...apples. They remind me so much of fall (even though they're available year-round). It hasn't been very fall-like this week in my neck of the woods - it was almost 90 yesterday! - but any recipe that gets me in the mind-set for autumn is something I have to post about.
It's from the Cooking For 2 blog and it's a recipe for Fried Apples. Pretty easy, actually. I'm not really a fan of hot apple pie (I prefer ice cold apple pie), but I'm willing to give this a shot. Full recipe after the jump.
I can probably count on my fingers how many times I've actually cooked for more people than just myself over the past couple of years. This makes me either really lonely or really picky about who I cook for. Probably the former, since I eat most of my meals alone watching television.*
Jade Walker, who maintains severalcoolblogs, has a food blog called Cooking For 2. The layout is really simple and great, just different recipes each day, and its easy to navigate. She has a recipe up for Mashed Potatoes, which is appropriate. This has quickly become one of my favorite food blogs.
Have you ever stashed a Coke in the freezer, hoping to chill it quickly, then forgotten all about it, only to have it explode all over your frozen peas?
