"contaminated food" news and stories

Ever had a hankering for poo-flavored gelato? Complain and ye shall receive!

pooIf you're easily susceptible to complaint backlash fear, you might not want to read on.

Down Under in Sydney, a family was at the Coogee Bay Hotel pub itching to watch some rugby. But the music was too loud for them to hear the televised game. Understandably, they complained. In response, the family received some free gelato for their aggravation. How sweet, right? Not quite. It tasted funny -- a familiar kind of funny. Rather than complain again, they got their free "gift" tested, and the results came back with a big stamp of "poo."

Now the Australian Food News reports that the NSW Food Authority's tests have come to the same conclusion, so now the sample will be tested to see if the fecal matter is from a human or animal. The hotel is refuting the allegations, but the test speaks for itself. Someone contaminated that supposedly thoughtful free gift.

Personally, I already have a bit of a complaint monitor -- always on to see if my complaint is worth the possible outcome. Now with fecal matter in the mix...

Family files suit against Taco Bell

This is thinking a little too much outside the bun.

A Nebraska family is suing the owners of the Mid Plains Food and Lodging KFC/Taco Bell franchise after an employee allegedly spit and urinated in their food.

Not only does the suit claim that employees did that nastiness, but it also says that there was actually a separate pan in the kitchen set aside for police officers (the father of the family is a cop) that employees would use for, ahem, "special servings" of food. The family says one of the children got very ill and had to go to the ER and that another child got sick too. Yikes.

The suit also says that management was aware of what happened before and after the incident and that they let the employee keep his job anyway. That employee has already plead guilty in an earlier lawsuit.

Mouse allegedly found in soup

A woman in Tennessee claims that her 89-year old mother found a mouse in a can of Campbell's Bean and Bacon soup. Campbell's representatives say that they would like to examine the mouse and the can in question, both of which have been stored by the family who made the allegations. The company says that it is unlikely that a mouse could have gotten into the very rigidly monitored packaging system at their plant. Casting further doubts on the legitimacy of the claim is the fact that the woman's mother reportedly ate some of the soup before noticing that there was a mouse in the can.

To give you an idea of the sizes, though the article does not specifically state what size can of soup the woman purchased, a regular sized can of Campbell's soup is 10.5-ounces and an adult mouse is about 1-ounce. The woman must have been eating directly from the can, as she would mostly likely have seen the mouse (if it was, in fact, in the can) had she decanted the soup.
