Two presidents known for their shared love of greasy foods chose a healthier choice for a meeting in New York.

After giving a speech to Wall Street on Monday, President Obama met up with former President Clinton at Greenwich Village's upscale Il Mulino, whose cuisine from Italy's Abruzzi region features dishes like Scaloppini Capriccio (veal sauteed in wine with prosciutto, fontina and mushrooms) and Red Snapper Sauteed with Seafood Sauce.

While the White House would not give Slashfood any information on the presidential menu, Clinton told reporters gathered outside that the two had "fish, pasta and salad," the Christian Science Monitor reports.

"It was very healthy. Even I was healthy," said Clinton, whose notorious taste for fast food -- the defunct McDonald's McRib sandwich in particular -- was a target of "Saturday Night Live" humor during his presidency.

Friday Happy Hour: Political cocktails

cocktailsTomorrow is the annual White House Correspondents Association Dinner, and Reuters has come up with a bunch of cocktails inspired by some current Presidential candidates and other political people.

The Barack O'Bomber mixes vodka, Jagermeister, Red Bull, and a lime wedge. The Senior Moment (I'll go out on a limb and assume they're referring to McCain here) is a simple scotch on the rocks. And the McGreevey-Tini, which is a dirty martini that, of course, comes in three parts.

After the jump, the recipe for the Love Potion No. 9, inspired by a certain ex-Governor.

Clinton negotiates healthy snack deal

Since everyone seems to have decided that more regulation is needed to control the obesity problem in children, it's not all that surprising to see companies agreeing to curb advertising and limit the availability of products left and right. In this case, an agreement was reached with Kraft Foods Inc., Mars Inc., Campbell Soup Co., Dannon and PepsiCo Inc with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a project of the William J. Clinton Foundation and the American Heart Association where the companies agreed to cut back on some unhealthy snacks.

At least, they said that they would try to.

The companies voluntarily agreed to "discourage schools from stocking vending machines with treats that are high in calories, fat, sugar and salt" and increase their promotion of healthier foods, defined by those that meet the "guidelines backed by the American Heart Association." The problem with this agreement is that schools can still stock whatever they want to and, in some schools, the administration is going to continue to stock what sells: junk foods.

But how much of a difference do the school vending machines make anyway? Not all that much, according to some students. "Junk food is great," said 13-year-old Victor Jimenez. Carlos Rodriguez, 13. "Kids will buy what they want," he said. "We just stop by the bodega on the way home."

France's political landscape: caviar vs. cassoulet

shhh! i made cassoulet. we will talk about that laterBernard-Henri Lévy, author of American Vertigo, was the guest on The Daily Show tonight. In speaking about the political landscapes of the U.S. versus that in France, he said France's political leanings were like caviar vs. cassoulet.

I found that a little funny, as cassoulet is starting to be just very popular here, but I'd bet anything the concept doesn't work in the U.S. because both sides of the spectrum seem to have their redneck tendencies. And I wonder what food George W. Bush would identify with? Hmmm... he must be barbecued ribs, I think, so what does that make the Democrats? Clinton was a McDonald's hamburger, Kerry was... what, a clam bake maybe? Hillary, she seems like a cucumber sandwich kind of woman. Or is it lobster roll?

Tip of the Day

December may have peppermint bark, but have you thought to incorporate the taste of autumn into white chocolate with a rich pumpkin swirl?
