Another Child Served Alcohol: Four-Year-Old Gets Mudslide at Chili's

In what can only be described as a bizarre and unintentional trend in the chain restaurant industry, yet another child was accidentally served alcohol, this time at Chili's, reports ABC news. There have been similar incidents recently at both The Olive Garden, in which a two-year-old was served sangria, and Applebee's, in which a 15-month-old was served a margarita.

The 4-year-old child, Brooklynn Morris, was allegedly served a mudslide instead of a chocolate shake and had three to four sips before she announced that she didn't like it. Her mother tasted the drink and immediately recognized the alcohol. Brooklynn was brought to the hospital and diagnosed with alcohol-ingestion overdose.

The mother, Tyree Davis, remarked to CBS, "I don't want it to ever happen again ... to any child, because I know this just happened last week to someone, and I heard about it, and it's crazy that it just happened to us yesterday."

ABC reports that ERJ Dining, the owner of Chili's, claims that the girl was served fruit punch and it was the mother that was served the alcohol drink.

Chili's New Wild or Mild Menus

Chili's restaurant wild or mild menuPhoto: Chili's

Relationships are full of compromise, and nothing quite says compromise like a date night at Chili's. We doubt that's the slogan Chili's marketing execs want to see for the chain's new "Wild or Mild" menu, but hey, when you think about it, Chili's has essentially brought to the table what dual-climate-control brought to car trips and Sleep Number beds brought to the bedroom: one less reason to bicker.

The menu features two appetizers and six entrées that each can be ordered (you guessed it) "wild" or "mild." As you'd expect, the "wild" side has a lot more oomph, both culinary (jalapeños galore!) and descriptive ("Kicked-Up Queso," "Blazin' Big Mouth Bites").

Even reality TV stars are pinching their pennies these days.

Last week bombshell Kim Kardashian was spotted eating at Chili's in Oxnard, Calif., with beau Miles Austin, a Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, RadarOnline.com reported.

Kardashian rolled up to the family eatery in her black Bentley, witnesses said.

"I can't believe it. Kim Kardashian eating at Chili's," a fellow diner who spotted the couple told RadarOnline.com. "It was just funny seeing her get out of her big Bentley and walk into Chili's."

Kardashian has been casually dating Austin for three months and visited him several times during the two weeks the Dallas Cowboys were at their Oxnard, Calif., training camp.

The couple hit up Chili's on a Thursday, when the chain's $20 dinner for two is a hit, RadarOnline.com reported.

Slow Cooker Chili - Get your equipment

backnext

rival slow cookerThere are two options when it comes to chili. You can make it on the stovetop, or you can do it in a slow cooker.

My aunt gave me my first slow cooker this past Christmas and now that I have it, I can't imagine not using it, especially for chili. The advantages of using a slow cooker are that you can prepare everything in advance, i.e. the night before; like your significant other when he's engrossed in the game, it doesn't need attention as it cooks, and you can serve your chili hot all day long straight out of the slow cooker. The advantages of making chili on the stovetop are...well, nothing. My choice for chili (now) will always be in a slow cooker.

If you don't have a slow-cooker, it wouldn't be a bad idea to invest in one now, though "invest" makes it sound like they're expensive. They're not. The one I have is a medium-sized one by Rival, which costs under $50. You can go higher end with brands like Cuisinart, but it isn't worth it to pay more for a name, If you're willing to pay more, pay for size and features.

And of course, if your slow cooker is making an appearance at a tailgate or Super Bowl Party, then there's always the ever-so-classy Pro Pots football-shaped Slow Cooker!
