Grilled Harissa Chicken with Cucumber Yogurt Dressing: Recipe of the Day

Photo: Frances Janisch

Harissa is a North African spice blend that usually contains coriander, cumin, garlic, ginger and chiles. It's got a spicy kick that's excellent in marinades or when added to a vinaigrette. You can buy it in ground form, as a jarred condiment or as a paste, and its bold flavor gives Gail Simmons' grilled chicken an exciting spin. After a bath in a harissa marinade, the chicken is grilled on a hot cast-iron grill pan, then sliced and served topped with a cooling cucumber yogurt dressing.

Food Video Finds: Coolio's Cookin' Chicken

There are a myriad of ways that a cooking show can go. It can be funny. It can be serious. It can show mind-boggling hard techniques, or simple stupid food prep. Yes, it's a rap-filled cooking extravaganza, and there's just something about spices in dime bags that amuses me. In the above segment, Coolio makes Fall Off the Bone Chicken. Or, as they put it: "Coolio and Andy Milonakis take over the kitchen to teach yo' ass how to make some finger lickin', rib stickin', fall off the bone and into your mouth chicken."

I hope you enjoy the above, and if there's any Internet shows that you think are worthy, something specific that you'd like to learn more about, or if there's a type of show you want to see, comment below.

Oven-Fried Corn Flake Chicken

Here it is April 13 and I'm ashamed to suddenly realize that I didn't cook chicken once during the winter. Oh, I made plenty of dishes that had chicken in it (mixed with pasta, with vegetables, with rice), but they were made with Perdue Short Cuts, chicken that was already cooked an cut up for me. But I didn't actually buy chicken from the store and make something myself. This recipe is going to change that, if for the only reason it contains breakfast cereal.
