Feast Your Eyes: Drunken Cherry-Vanilla Ice Cream

drunken cherry-vanilla ice cream
I've have a weakness for ice cream that was flecked with bits of cherry ever since my mom brought home that first carton of Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia when I was in high school. To this day, when I'm craving a treat, it's one of the first things I turn to.

I think that's why this picture spoke to me so strongly, it's that tie to cherry studded ice cream. This image (and recipe) comes to us from Susan at Sticky, Gooey, Creamy, Chewy. She takes her ice cream a step further than the folks at Ben & Jerry's, soaking her cherries in brandy before stirring them into the ice cream. Sounds quite good to me!

Food Porn: Cherry-Vanilla Cupcakes

Maraschino cherries are perserved, sweetened cherries that are dyed red and flavored with a little bit of almond. Sticky sweet, they aren't the most popular of fruits, but there are at least two things that they are perfect for: garnishing cocktails and topping off desserts. These Cherry Vanilla Cupcakes from Cupcake Bakeshop look perfect with their garnish, which seems much more appropriate for their flavor profile than sprinkles would be because it lets a potential cupcake eater (if, for example, these are out on a dessert table) know what kind of cupcake he or she should expect. They probably still won't expect to find cherry pie-like filling in the center of each vanilla cake, but it will help.

If you're interested in using little treat cups for your baking, as show in the picture above, take a look around a craft store, which is where I found mine. Don' fill them quite as high has you might fill regular cupcakes because they are more likely to overflow, but otherwise they should work our just the same as normal cupcake papers.

Pepsi Jazz competes with flavored colas?

This July, Pepsi is expected to release a new line of carbonated, zero-calorie, fruit flavored sodas called Pepsi Jazz. Possible flavors are rumored to include strawberries and cream and black cherry french vanilla, so the sodas are designed to compete with Black Cherry-Vanilla Coke and the Soda Fountain line of Dr. Pepper drinks, which include both Berries and Cream and Cherry-Vanilla flavors. The fruity offerings from Pepsi's competitors are doing well and, though it is a bit late entering the market with its flavors, Pepsi fans will still be looking forward to seeing them when they do finally hit the shelves
