Cereality settles lawsuit with Cerealicious

We here at Slashfood have known for sometime that there was another player in the cereal restaurant game besides Cereality. The Surreal Bowl, which opened in Florida this past May, hinges its concept on allowing customers to combine sugary cereals.

Chicago-based Cereality thus far has had no problem with The Surreal Bowl. Not so for Cerealicious. The grandaddy of the breakfast restaurant sued the ~~Canada~~ Ohio-based copycat for trademark infringement and unfair competitive activities in franchising its business. I'm guessing the suit was prompted by Cerealicious' plans to open in the Ohio market.

Cereality just settled its federal lawsuit this week, hailing it as a victory for trademark protection. Guess this means I'll have to call my investors and tell them that Cereal Killers is a no-go.

Even though I think it's silly, I still love this banana slicer from Cereality, the popular quick-fix breakfast cereal chain. All you have to do is peel your banana and press the slicer through it, producing a full banana of neat slices, ready to be tossed into cereal or onto a bowl of oatmeal. Before you dismiss it, is it really that much different from an avocado slicer or egg slicer? This gadget is an easy way to save time in the mornings and add something delicious to your food while getting an extra serving of fruit. It's only $7.99 and it's versatile, too! If breakfast isn't your thing, you can toss them into a frying pan with butter and brown sugar to make a dessert topping.

Cereality: the fast food cereal restaurant

I recently stumbled across the website for a chain of restaurants called Cereality. Basically, they're fast-food-type establishments that sell hot and cold cereal. The restaurant interiors seem loosely styled after kitchens and breakfast nooks and the employees are apparently clad in pajamas. There are lots of name-brand cereals to choose from and combine. You can then pick the type of milk you want, as well as other toppings. There are currently four locations: two in Pennsylvania, one in Illinois and one in Arizona.

I can see how some people would be drawn to a place like this. There's surely a novelty factor and also the idea of getting to blend a bunch of different kinds of cereals you like. But really, whenever I eat out and I get something that I could have done at home, I tend to feel a little bit cheated. Still, it's probably worlds healthier than a McGriddle.
