Did you know that there are 5,000 tiffin (lunchbox) deliverymen in Mumbai (Bombay?).
The business sector relies heavily on these, generally illiterate guys, getting their lunch to them on time. Their punctuality and professionalism is highly praised. They collect the tiffin boxes from workers homes, catch the train for the hours journey into the city and deliver the boxes in time for lunch.
Now, despite their general illiteracy, the tiffinwalars have set up a website and use SMS services to increase customer numbers. The new technology has been built for them by a software engineer Manish Tripathi who has been adopted as an honorary tiffinwala.
