Summer Is Here: Ice Cream Blog Event

Beech Dean Ice CreamFinally Summer has hit the UK. The weather here is just fine and dandy and looks likely to remain so for the coming week. And when it is hot what does any honest foodie think of? Ice cream.

And it is not just me but blogger Sweet Pleasure agrees. So much does she love the frozen stuff she is planning a blog event during June (to be done by July 1st) for recipes, stories and photographs on ice-cream. Oh and gelato, sorbet, sherbets or anything else remotely frozen/creamy/icy.

Wild flavours are in this year. And if I had an ice-cream maker I would love to make my own. Instead I am going to see if I can find some local varieties to try. Having just delved into the freezer the one and only tub I have is from a local producer - mere minutes away from my parents and where I grew up and not so far from where I live now.

Blog Garden Party

One of the advantages of helping out on Is My Blog Burning (a notice board of all the foodie blog events and happenings) is the advance notice of such events.

One such event, posted today, is the Garden Party as organized by Dispensing Happiness.  This should be great. Basically, Blog Party is a virtual cocktail party. As Dispensing Happiness says, "It's a chance to make those little bites and fantastic drinks we all love, but never make. Blog Party is about taking time for us: setting aside some time to cook (which, clearly, we all love), to prepare appetizers we want to eat but never get around to. And best of all, it's about getting together, albeit via the Web, with like-minded friends."

You don't have much time to join in -- if you have a blog -- as entries have to be in by the 18th. I am thinking refreshing elderflower cordial; perhaps some Pimms, and some crisp little savoury nibbles. Of course, you can always take a peek at our own Slashfood Garden Party for insipiration.

Two great blogging events combine

Oh yes indeedee, my friends, the top wine blog event WBW (Wine Blogging Wednesday) and the premier food bloggers event IMBB (Is My Blog Burning) are combining in May to create perhaps the largest food blog event EVER!

To be called the Fabulous Favorites Festival this exciting event will occur on Friday May 19. Combining the food and the wine FFF is a food and wine pairing event that the organisers hope "will attract the largest group of participants ever for any culinary blog event."

The concept is simple, with two plans of attack you can choose from.

  1. Pick a favorite bottle of wine from your cellar and create/cook a dish that goes with it.
  2. Pick a favorite dish in your culinary repertoire and seek out a wine that will pair will it.

Or, if you're feeling really ambitious, create an entire wine-pairing menu of favorites.

While we here at Slashfood seem to be too busy to join in (or in my case too forgetful) the biggest food bloggers' event might just spur a few of us to join in this time.

New Canadian blogging event

Open only to the grand array of Canadian food bloggers who have sprung up over the last couple of years - CBBP: Canadian Blogging By Post (a take on my own Euro Blogging By Post or EBBP for short).

Canadian Blogging By Post is an exchange of food parcels. The first round is just been announced at Sweet Pleasures. The rules are simple but it is up to each participant in what they send. There is a theme of sorts - Chocolate - but the other 4 or 5 items are up to you. You send off your parcel on the 7th May and in return receive one from a mystery benefactor. This parcel exchange is terribly popular in the Euro-blogging zone; the squeals of pleasure across the provinces are sure to be equal to those across Europe!

Virtual Vacation Contest

Virtual Vacation Contest

Two Hawaiian blogs - Ma'ona and Ono Kine Grindz have joined together to create a one off Virtual Vacation Contest.

The idea is to create a food dish you consumed while on a memorable holiday. It should be a dish you had for the first time while abroad. They ask that you blog about the dish with details of the discovery. How successful were you at recapturing the flavours and sensations that you encountered?

What makes this event more exciting is the promise that the best entry will win a hand-picked basket of Hawaiian food stuffs. Not sure that recreating a Cornish Pasty munched in a cold February drizzle in Fowey is really what they are looking for and I know for certain that my culinary skills will not measure up to recreating the delicious fish dishes we had at Rick Stein's place in Padstow either...
