Have Your Bottle and Drink It Too with Hopside Down Glasses

Hopside Down beer glassEvery good beer drinker knows drinking out of the bottle is a no-no (Busch Light drinkers excluded). The only way to get the full nose and aroma is to pour that bottled brew into the proper glassware.

Still, sometimes having your buddy turn to you and ask, "Don't you want a glass for that?" can be equally annoying. Beer snobbery has become as growing a concern to the casual beer drinker almost as much as seasonal beer food pairings have been worrying the aforementioned beer snob.

Well, finally someone has come up with a solution. Fred & Friends has produced the Hopside Down beer glass. This glassware is designed to look like a longneck beer bottle, but turned upside-down with the bottom sliced off. The effect: The look of drinking out of a bottle but leaving an open air environment to let your nose enjoy all those precious hop and malt scents.

I haven't actually tried these glasses yet, so I can't vouch for their quality, but they certainly look cool. (And people who drink beer always do it to look cool!)

Beer Blog Round-up - Slashfood Ate (8)

An old friend came into town this Sunday. We kicked off the celebration with a bottle of DeuS and, long story short, I haven't gotten around to blogging until today. Perfect time to catch up on this week's beer happenings with a beer blog round-up.
  1. There's been a lot of chatter about the Men's Fitness list of "America's five best bars for beer lovers." In today's beer climate, limiting the list down to just 5 seems impossible, and, with as little offense to Men's Fitness as possible, I'm not sure if they are the magazine to do it.
  2. The idea of healthy beer has been a headturner as a number of blogs and news sites have been running the story of scientists at Rice University who integrated the anti-aging chemicals from red wine into a new BioBeer. Here's what Discovery had to say about it.
  3. Hipsters really seemed to Digg this article on Sloshspot discussing The Evolution of Pabst Blue Ribbon's Beer Advertising. Or you can just drop into Bob & Barbara's on South St. in Philadelphia and see it all firsthand.

Beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer

What's the next best thing to drinking more than 100 beers from around the world? Putting a video up on YouTube of you drinking more than 100 beers from around the world, of course!

russa0 posted this video, a sort of travelogue of his beer adventures. Now, you don't actually see him drinking the beer. He's mostly holding them up and pointing to them, but I don't doubt he drank them all. I haven't heard of 99% of these beers, but then again, I've never traveled out of the U.S. He does have Budweiser though!
